"So the Sun, and I really don't like saying this, has a point. I can't just... leave my orbit, or play asteroid dodgeball with Mars, or spend time with the outer solar system's moons and get to know them better, just because they're things I WANT to do. I have to be responsible, even when I don't feel like it.

"That's... not so much being a parent, as what being an 'adult' means, right? Putting more serious matters first?

"Ugh, fine, I'll start again. I'm four-point-five billion years old, and I'm still the youngest rocky planet in this system. I have one moon - Luna - and I really can't imagine being without them. I have friends, and... we've failed each other, but that doesn't mean we stop being friends, or stop being a system, right? We still have things in common, even the things we need to work on, but we're still better together than apart, or alone.

    "And the Sun...

    "I. I don't. I don't feel so good-"

Yes, that's Terra-Earth having a panic attack right at the end.

    He need hugs. ;a;

“Earth. You never got a chance to see any of them. You got stuck in your orbit pretty early on, and they rarely came to the inner solar system. You can’t blame yourself for the way things were. Do they know you any better?” Luna said, straining to move, no doubt wanting to comfort the Earth.

The Earth continued to take deep breaths. His temperature wasn’t rising, still steadily falling. Thermodynamics still worked. So did his core. The solar system was still frozen. Luna was here with him. It wasn’t worth getting worked up over. If they came back, they could attempt to make up for it, and if they didn’t, he supposed that they would remain perfect strangers.

“There was never a question of me leaving. A system for a reason. You remember what you promised back when we first woke up?”

    We can stay together.

    Promise?

Who was the Earth to deny Luna of anything?

"Mack!" Lightning shouts, immediately running for the bigger man. he slams hard into the mans chest and Macks arms are immediately around him.

"you fucking can talk." Doc snorts.

"holy hell kid! where've you been!?" Mack shouts, picking him up and holding him tightly.

"who are you?" Flo ask curiously.

"I'm Mack, I'm Lightnings guardian and his hauler." Mack says looking over at her. "which one of you is Doc?" Mack ask. Lightning immediately points Doc out.

"that'd be me." Doc says, walking over.

"thank god. we've been looking for him since he went missing." Mack says, shaking Docs hand.

"you said you're his guardian right? I thought the kid was 20 something…?" Doc ask.

"oh he is, he's 23, but uh, I've been his legal guardian since he was 14." Mack says. Mack looks down at Lightning, looking him over carefully. "god kid I'm so glad you're still in one piece." Mack mutters, finally letting him go.

"so you can talk you little shit." Doc smirks at Lightning. Lightning flushes dark red and half steps behind Mack.

"he won't. you said he had a pretty bad head injury right?" Mack ask.

    "yeah." Doc frowns.

"he's not gonna talk. he's pretty selectively mute outside of tv." Mack says.

    "tv?" Mater asks curiously.

"oh yeah. Lightnings a racer for NASCAR. uh, speaking of, where's his car?" Mack frowns.

"c'mon son, I'll take you to see the car." Sheriff says. Lightning immediately grabs Macks arm hard.

"you stay here boss I'll be right back." Mack assures. Lightning digs his finger nails into Macks arm shaking his head no quickly. he'd just gotten Mack, the only person he could really remember, back and he wasn't going to lose him.

"kid he'll be right back." Doc assures. Lightning shakes his head again, he can't lose Mack. Mack pulls off his trucker cap and plops it onto Lightnings head.

"you hold that and these." Mack says, handing Lightning his wallet and phone. "I'll be right back. promise. won't leave you behind. not this time. I'm going to go get your car, you stay right here. I'll be right back." Mack assures. he can't give Lightning his keys, he needs them to get the car into the semi, but he can give Lightning his other belongings. Lightning pushes the hat up and looks at Mack. "promise." Mack smiles, reaching his pinky out.

"okay." Lightning mutters, hooking his own pinky into Macks. Mack heads off to get the car loaded up and Lightning turns back to the town. its quiet until Mack comes back with Lightnings car loaded into his trailer.

"alright kid, time to go." Mack murmurs. Lightning looks hesitant, looking around at the town.

“You know what I’m going t’ say, Sher.”

“Heh, let’s see, what are you goin’ t’ say…that I’m awful handsome?”

“You’re awful, ‘s what you are,” Doc mumbles under his breath, and the deep chuckle that comes from Sheriff’s throat has him weak in the knees.

    Bookmarker's Notes

“I’m your doctor, Sher—mmm—I should be taking care of—mmm—your health, an’ I can’t do that if you’re not payin’ any heed!”

“I’d call this taking care of me,” Sheriff smirks, and damn it all if that look doesn’t stoke the fires in Doc’s gut. He bites down on Doc’s lip, and Doc whimpers pathetically.

“I’m just—I should be—hng, Sher, please—tellin’ you t’—t’ eat better, or lose a few pounds, or—”

Sheriff makes a dismissive sound and kisses Doc again. He still has the doctor pressed against the wall, and his own body pressed against Doc’s.

    “Cut yourself some slack, dear…”

“I’m just—I’m not bein’ a very good doctor, am I?”

Sheriff kisses him, long and hard, hands buried somewhere in Doc’s hair, the racer all but enveloped in him. Doc whimpers again, hips twitching into Sheriff’s, and the older man can’t keep the smirk off of his face.

“Hush, Hud. I know you like it.”

Every fiber of Doc wants to argue, to demand that Sheriff take better care of himself—to demand that he do a better job of taking care of Sheriff, as a doctor and a partner—, and yet he doesn’t say a word. Instead, he reaches up and gently cups Sheriff’s face in his hands.

It’s fine, isn’t it? Sheriff’s in pretty good health, after all. He’ll just keep an eye out, and if anything changes then he can be more strict. Right?

The warmth of Sheriff against him is too distracting for him to keep thinking.

“Oh, shut up,” he grumbles, voice gruff with affection. Sheriff smirks, pulling him just a bit closer, and anything else Doc might have said fades away. This time, he lets himself melt completely into Sheriff’s arms.

    “‘Course, Hud. Anythin’ for you.”

And, well, it’s hard to argue with a kiss that good.
