God, I don't even know what to say, just— fuck. When I started reading I was like: "Ohh, it's centered around Baby Clark's internalized homophobia, okay, okay. I like it. We need more of these kind of fics, actually"... and then the scene happened and I was literally screaming inside my head: "I TAKE IT BACK, WE DON'T NEED MORE, WE DON'T NEED MOREEE 😭😭😭". It hurt me that much, it really did... It was beautiful. A lovely, lovely beautiful work with just the perfect amount of pain and love and hope ❤️

The tag on his foot— the only part of him visible— has his name and rank: 1LT NIVANS, PIERS, and when Chris sees it he can’t move, or think, and he just stands there in the open doorway with the lights off, and waits for it to feel real.
It never does.
