Neku's been waiting for Josh to reappear for two years now, since he won the Game and helped save Shibuya. Despite returning to the RG, a part of him is still tied to the UG, a tenuous connection that he can’t quite bring himself to cut. When Josh finally does deign to make an reappearance, Neku realises that sooner or later he's going to have to choose: the RG, or the UG? "Not particularly," declared Neku.
"Aww, but I've been working so hard on it," Joshua pleaded, his smirk only growing by the second. "I had to make a new one, after all, once those Shinjuku Reapers were done having their fun."
It's been a year since Neku has last seen Joshua, and it wasn't as if their last conversation was all that involved. Now, completely out of the blue, Joshua is asking Neku to test-Play a "new version" of the Reapers' Game -- but of course, this requires Neku to die once again in order to do so.
The amount of trust Neku has in a person who has yet to do anything worthy of his forgiveness, leading to him accepting this offer without a second thought, is probably a bit concerning.
