Summary
Doomsday protocols aren’t something Matt thought he’d ever have to know much about. At least, before Terry went and started fist fighting crime in back alleys and solving murders and stuff. Now, the most recent – and if he’s being completely honest, most scary – apocalyptic level event had actually put every hero left alive on the back foot. The Justice League was down, the extended Bat related Vigilante group of such-and-such had been systematically eradicated, and all that was left was Matt, Terry, Max, and a bleeding-to-his-death Old Man Bruce. And Ace, he can’t forget Ace.
And then the bombs went off, and Matt finds himself cold, and alone, in the parking lot of a Circus that closed down long before he was born. Gotham in 1976 is not ready for a McGinnis, let alone two of them.

Terry pulled up his comms device and only got static when he tried to call for Bruce. He huffed in annoyance and took a glance around again. Wait, He was close to Wayne Tower, that meant Batman- that meant he could look for Bruce! He’s sure younger Bruce would know what to do. “Come on, Old Man. Your plans haven’t failed me now.” He pulled out his grapple and shot it in the direction of Wayne Manor. Mentally begging that Batman would be there to help.
What Terry failed to notice while looking at the beautiful Gotham landscape, was two young birds interested in their newest visitor.

Having multiple soulmates was something romanticized in stories, but absolutely loathed in practice. Made all the more complicated by the people experiencing it. Every bond was intermingled, looped and knotted up in others. It made the connections murky, the limits hard to grasp. Unfairly proportioned, a gift to some, a curse to others.

“I just..” he motions up at the MechaMan suit. “I purposely stayed away. Tried to hide away from the bond. I felt like knowing me would only put them in danger. Heroes don't live safe lives. What if one of my enemies went for them because of me?”

Danny Constantine dies suddenly, violently, and without meaning. A single bullet, no warning, no suffering, over a wallet and phone.
John Constantine feels the silence of their binding spell, and he runs.
Hell takes Danny because it always takes Constantines. Time stretches there, warps, rots. When he finally claws his way back out, it’s into his own corpse, already buried and still decaying.
Pieces of the body fail. Skin sloughs, hair comes out in clumps, the stench follows him everywhere. The longer Danny holds on, the less human he feels, and the more something else starts to look back from mirrors and reflective glass.
John Constantine, meanwhile, has erased himself from the world. By the time he’s dragged back into it, his son is walking around in a half-rotted body held together by magic, grief, and sheer refusal to stop existing.
