Another very short hard labor story! Wish there was a tag for it, its one of my favorite things to explore~
I think short little vignettes like this are a good way to explore hard labor, since a lot of the appeal (at least for me) is that the suffering is happening all around, inescapable and yet deeply personal for each person experiencing it, and that suffering is fractal. When its your whole life theres a million little sufferings building up to the great misery.
I've always liked the idea of an artificially created underclass and it was nice to explore that from two angles however briefly- Language:

Summary
Wrote this a bit ago. Wanted to zero in on one aspect of the hard labor slavery i love so much. One thing I really love about hard labor like this is how it never ends, every day as miserable as the last so every small bit of it is magnified and compounded on day after day and can make up a whole story on its own!

An old slaves reflects on how she made it this far. There's only one way to live this long in such cruel conditions, and it's to stay unwanted and out of sight, but how many years, decades even, can you live unwanted?
A sadder tale than my usual fair, hope you still like it! Getting into my real bread and butter, forced labor. Genuine apologies though for writing such a straight woman, I swear it won't happen again.
