Aventurine reluctantly let his eyes drift toward the cue card—an A5 sheet set upon the light-colored desk, discreetly half-hidden behind a neatly placed decorative flower arrangement. It was, admittedly, a remarkably creative tactic: serving as a reminder for the participants to comply with the show’s script while avoiding the risk of being caught on cameras. And yet, no matter how many times he reread those lines, he simply could not bring himself to believe what it said.
Damn it — how much was the contract penalty again? He could pay ten times over without blinking!
