Summary
Sirius Black had always been viewed as a rebel, joining Gryffindor, choosing light over dark, friends over family, ignoring the suspicious looks and silent judgment. He thought he’d turned his back on his family, on them all, until the old family house elf appears one night, the family magic working through him to bring Sirius home.
Sirius saves his brother and his family, wins the war, but in keeping the secret that enables it, comes at the expense of his friends and their acceptance. James, a man he’d thought would always have his back, turns away in disgust and hate, barely refraining from igniting a blood feud.

Summary
When the Ministry informs Harry that they are coming to destroy his wand for defending himself from the dementors that attack him in Little Whinging, Harry knows there's only one path left available to him. He can survive on his own. He knows how. It won't even be that hard. And being on the run in his animagus form makes him a feel a little closer to Sirius, anyway.
At least, he thinks so, until he's picked up by a pet store, sold to a classmate, and brought right back to Hogwarts where the state of things is so bad that he's actually glad he's expelled.
