A brighter flash than usual, a sharp stab of pain into his torso, a bang that makes his ears throb.
And then light.
And with the light comes pain.
Pain like he’s never experienced before. It’s like his skin has become sandpaper, his blood lava, his muscles burning coals. He tries to scream, but his throat is far too parched and his lungs void of air.
Then, a sound. It starts as a whisper, barely audible above the pounding of his heart.
It comes again.
And again.
A name.
His name?
Is “Phainon” his name?
He can’t remember anymore.

Based on the Animated Short “Hark! There’s Revelry Atop the Divine Mountain”, Phainon becomes trapped within Irontomb and is used as a proto power source until it is eventually defeated. He is rescued, but there are parts of him that are still lost.
Including his relationship with Mydei.

One thousand years is a long time, the cycle doesn’t always last a thousand years, sometimes he’s lucky and all of the coreflames appears within two hundred years and he robs most of the younger Heirs their chance to live just to reset the cycle again. He doesn’t get lucky often and he finds himself waiting for… something or someone, he can’t remember. Whatever, he’ll remember it later when his head stops hurting too much. After all, one thousand years is a long time.
Between the cycles and the passing of time, the Vessel dreams.
Or The classic Flame Reaver tactic (TM) to pass the years is to daydream until the coreflames are all gathered so he can yoink them all cuz he’s tired and it’s more convenient to have everyone gather them for him.

He expects to be forgotten in silence—but Mydei finds him, alive and breaking, and refuses to let him disappear.

Phainon did the only thing possible in such a situation: He panicked.
“Uh,” he said, because clearly his eloquence had abandoned him during one of the cycles, “yes?”
// OR, circumstance leads to the heirs thinking Phainon only lived through thirty-three cycles. Rather than correcting them on this, Phainon doubles down and decides this is the new narrative he'll go along with so as to avoid worrying them too much.

Summary
Phainon pesters Mydei to do a “training exchange” with him. Mydei reluctantly agrees, only to find himself lying on the ground with Phainon leaning over him.
“You know,” Phainon says casually, “back when I used to train with the other Okheman guards, I’d do this with them all the time.”
Mydei narrows his eyes. “With the other guards?”
“Yeah,” Phainon replies. “They’d always help me check my form and give me advice.”
For some reason, he steps over Mydei’s body, placing his feet just above either side of his hips. “They’d lie down over here, like you, just to make sure I was doing it right.”
Mydei’s eyes widen. “What do you—”
And then Phainon bends his knees and lowers himself, all the way down. He stops right above Mydei’s groin, and it’s close, so close that the heat from his body is almost palpable, but still out of reach.
“With them under me, watching… I’d move up, and down, up, and down…”
He shifts his hips as he says it, moving in slow, deliberate rolls.
Then, leaning in just a little, he drops his voice to a low whisper, knowing Mydei can hear every word. “And I’d say thank you when I came down on them… every single time.”
