Summary
Executive Chef James Flint can’t quite place the feeling of familiarity he experiences when John Silver, the worst cook he’s ever met, weasels his way onto the kitchen staff at The Walrus & The Carpenter. South Beach Miami has always been a melting pot ready to boil over, but with the pipes literally rotting beneath their feet, past horrors creeping in again, and new ones encroaching on the horizon, Flint finds himself forced to confront his own demons as he and a staff of immigrants face down an authoritarian regime threatening to tear their community apart. For ten years, he and general manager Eleanor Guthrie have overcome every challenge, but Silver also has a past that could send Flint’s entire existence into a tailspin.
*I’ve updated this summary to better reflect the reality of what this story has become. It’s no longer a fluffy comedy. While it’s still going to have comedy in the mix, I want to be honest about the heavy themes that have developed here. Because this started as a rant about my real life work woes, it began without a plot. Now that I know where it’s going, I feel the previous summary was a bit disingenuous.

Summary
“I wish you hadn’t told me about your grief sometimes,” Silver says, voice going softer. “That I did not feel the need to help you hold it so you don’t kill yourself with it.”
“Then why don’t you let it?” Flint bites out, glaring at him.
“Because you are my friend,” Silver says fiercely.

Summary
John, horrified by what he finds he’s capable of after Dufresne, decides to run. Of course, he should have known better than to assume he would ever be free of James Flint. Not a week after leaving, he sees an opportunity for a simple bit of robbery that turns out to be a lot more complicated than he ever imagined. Whoever Thomas Hamilton is, he’s strange, and not what he pretends to be - however grateful he seems to be that John rescued him from his captors. Still, John decides that perhaps a simple partnership can’t hurt, right?
A story that explores what would happen if Thomas joined the story of Black Sails at the start of series four, and what John not playing along would have meant.
