Helaena Targaryen is a good Queen, a good wife and a good mother. She had a lot of practice of course, she had been all those things for most of her life. A wife at three and ten. A mother at four and ten. A Queen at twenty. It would be rather embarrassing if she was not decent at it by now.
She doesn’t know how she became good at all those things, so if you were to ask, she would not be able to answer. If you truly want to figure it out, she supposes one has to start at the beginning.

Helaena’s hands moved deftly, the needle gliding easily through the fabric in her hands as she embroidered at his bedside. She let her eyes wander over his features for a moment; from the soft curve of his lips and the sharp line of his jaw, to the way the sunlight that spilled through the curtains played upon his silver hair, turning it into a shimmering crown.
But the light could not soften the harsh reality of his injuries. His face was now a patchwork of scars and burns, the skin taut and angry. The bandages covered half of it, hiding the worst of the damage, but she had seen enough to know the pain he must be enduring.
☆ Aegon returns to King's Landing—a shell of the man he once was, scarred, burnt and broken. He doesn't want to see anyone, he says. And yet, when the maesters come to change his bandages, Helaena is always at his bedside; quietly embroidering.

In other words: Aemond Targaryen is Visenya Targaryen reborn with her memories as well and Granny Vhagar is more intuitive than anyone else in the seven kingdoms. Plus she's just happy to have her brilliant girl back.

It shocks him how unbothered he is in looking after the kids. He doesn't find himself annoyed with Maelor's babbling, his endless questions, or his pleas to play 'knights and dragons' when Jaehaera refuses. He is rowdy and full of an energy Aegon can't possibly match. In contrast, his daughter is a breeze but not without her quirks. She is sweet and quiet, preferring to observe those around her or focus on her texts. She reminds him of Helaena.
(AU where Jaehaera & Maelor join Aegon during his time on Dragonstone. Set after the Fall of King's Landing and before the Fall of Dragonstone. HOTD spoilers.)

The revelry was tiring instead of rewarding, for there was something she had been anxious to attend to. At the foot of the raised table where the rest of the family sat, stood Ser Criston; watchful and loyal, his presence never strayed far from his Queen. This dedication was nothing more but a bitter reminder that come morning, she must make a decision and remove him from service.
It would be the first time she’ll ever be directly responsible for someone else’s fate. Treason warranted death as punishment, yet she could not give it in clear conscience — Ser Criston had indeed followed her orders under her own less than noble interest. He had been loyal, to a point.
Yet, she knew what she must do. No complication would stand in her way; not now, not ever, even if she had to hide the blood under her fingernails.
On the morrow, Ser Criston would be gone.
