“Exactly,” Gen said smoothly, his lips curving into a grin that he dutifully hid behind his sleeve.

“What? How?” he asks, promptly, so eager to please. There’s very little he wouldn’t do to help Yan Wushi. Still, his Taoist heart basically forces him to make things clear this time as well. “I’ll do it. As long as it’s nothing immoral, of course.”
Yan Wushi snickers. Of course. “Let’s dual cultivate,” he suggests, nonchalantly. Shen Qiao’s face goes white, then green, then red. Yan Wushi doesn’t even need to see it to know, that’s why he keeps his head hidden in the hollow of Shen Qiao’s shoulder. The latter feels Yan Wushi’s smile directly against the skin of his neck, and that’s what brings him officially over the edge.

It’s only as he tries to get up, alarmed, that the pain shoots through his body and reminds him why that would be a terrible idea. A grunt of pain must escape him, because He Xuan pushes him down again. This time, he leaves his hand on his shoulder, a constant reminder to “stay the fuck down, dianxia, fucking idiot.”
“You sounded like you were in pain. Are you sure you weren’t hurt in the collapse?”
“It really is very galling to be fretted upon by a man who is bleeding half of his intestines unto the floor.”
(or: Xie Lian and He Xuan end up trapped in a cave together, and Xie Lian won't stop saying upsetting things. It's probably the concussion.)
