Entropy had stuck with Ronan as the only bullshit involved in chemistry that he could actually see as feasible. Not because he’d ever understood the intricacies of molecular structures or anything like that, but because of moments like this one: where the universe had decided to condense an intense amount of chaos together into a single instant and dump it on him without warning, and he was all at once spitting out his beer and tripping sideways over a to-scale cardboard model of Henrietta’s post office and listening to Gansey say “what’s wrong?” in the most Gansey voice ever used and looking—yes, looking with his own damn eyes—at a nude photo of Adam Parrish on his own damn phone.
Holy mother of God.

Summary
Ronan had developed a rare routine, in the months since he and Adam had gotten together.
On Sundays, he would drive to St. Agnes’ - but this had always been routine, for him. In the parking lot, he’d wait for his brothers to arrive from D.C.; once they had, they’d all go into Mass together, and Ronan would pray to be absolved of his multitude of sins. Sometimes, he went to confession afterwards; most times, he didn’t. Most times, immediately after the service was done, Ronan would leave the church through one door, enter through another, and emerge in Adam’s apartment.

Sometimes Adam thought that he would wake up one day and he was still living in the trailer with an abusive father and a scared mother.
Maybe he had imagined everything; he had never become friends with Gansey and Ronan and Noah and Blue. Maybe he had been too lonely and messed up that he had made them all up inside his head.
Because he was powerless, he imagined himself being a magician to a magical forest.
Because he was lonely, he imagined the best friends he could ever ask for.
Because he was unworthy of being with anyone, he imagined the perfect boy and fell in love with him.
Sometimes Adam thought that he was dreaming. What scared him was if this was a dream, he never wanted to wake up.
But then Ronan would knock insistently on his door. Adam would still hear the muffled “Come on Parrish, I know you’re still awake, let me in, it’s cold as fuck out here” and he would smile.
There was no way he could have ever imagined Ronan Lynch.

Adam stepped up behind him, chest pressed to his back, and slipped one hand into the front pocket of Ronan's coat. “Hey,” he said, breath hot against Ronan’s ear, voice rough from sleep and his resolving cold. At first, Ronan thought the hand in his pocket was just so that Adam’s fingers wouldn’t freeze, but then Adam slid it forward, resting his palm squarely over Ronan’s dick.
Ronan turned his head just enough to catch Adam’s eye. “You’re a fucking menace, you know that, Parrish?”
Pushing his hips forward, Adam made a hum of agreement and whispered, “Are you really gonna make me wait until we get home?”
Fuck. Ronan let out a shuddering breath, almost a laugh. “You deserve better than a quick BJ in a gas station bathroom.”

The truth was, really, that he’d started thinking about kissing Ronan Lynch almost immediately after meeting him, because Ronan was handsome in a stark, unignorable way that Adam had been easily captured by, at first. So he’d done what he always did, back when he was still living in his parent's house: let himself acknowledge the feeling, then put it away for later. Adam raised disbelieving eyebrows at him, “If you can sit here and not shiver, then I’ll believe that.”
Ronan held some very hostile eye contact with him - luckily, Adam had spent enough time around him by now that its effect had largely worn off - as his entire body tensed, clearly trying not to shiver. It didn’t work, because a second or so later, another shiver wracked his body.
“There. Point proven.”
“Fine. I’m cold. Happy now?”
“Take your clothes off, Lynch.”
Ronan’s eyebrows shot toward his hairline, “We’re gonna need to get married before you can start making those kinds of requests, Parrish. I’m a man of God.”
[AKA Adam's heating breaks and he has to stay at the Barns. As always, him and Ronan are dumb and gay about it.]
