Billy likes to think he’s capable of basic tasks, thank you very much. He made himself a stupid fucking elf thief and laughed at the kid’s awestruck faces when he asked questions during their campaign. Jesus, did no one show these kids kindness? Was no one interested in how their favourite things worked? Billy knew he was a shit brother, knew he was an asshole, but he knew what Max liked. He picked out stickers for her skateboard and got her Wonder Woman comics and introduced her to Joan Jett.

Waking up in a Russian prison after an experimental surgery was emotional enough. Having almost a year to contemplate what he was forced to do during his possession by the shadow was worse; feeling suicidal but being observed twenty-four hours a day was mentally and emotionally exhausting. Trying to understand why any of this happened to him while still being punished and locked away; the Russians putting him through test after test of endurance while he held onto these weird powers leftover by the shadow, was the cherry on top of a shit cake.
Billy was tired of crying.

Zuko realizes his destiny much earlier. As in, as soon as he wakes up in the palace after his Agni Kai and is told he is banished. Unfortunately, he's never been a patient one. So he storms right up to Ozai and tells him what he's going to do. And gets locked up for over three years. Then, one day, he's being pulled out and told he's the new Fire Lord.
A "Zuko never meets the Gaang and suddenly becomes Fire Lord after three years of literal torture" AU. In which the Gaang doesn't know what to think of the new Fire Lord who happens to be the missing nephew of Aang's firebending teacher, Iroh constantly has a headache, and, sure, maybe the world hates the Fire Nation, but the Fire Nation LOVES Zuko, and he can work with that.

His savior has the bluest eyes he's ever seen and so does his new family.Hakoda wasn't planning on gaining another kid after the failed invasion but here he is. He just wishes the kid would stop giving his crew heart attacks with his lack of survival instincts.
