Summary
It must’ve rode up after he pointed the whisk, and up until now, Eddie hadn’t even realized Buck wasn’t wearing an apron — which was definitely weird. Buck always wore one as he baked or cooked. Eddie had to force his gaze away from the tiny, yet very evident round appearance of his boyfriend’s stomach.
Buck returned to his glaze making, oblivious to Eddie’s stares, which Eddie continued on doing, completely baffled. With a recoil from him mentally slapping himself, Eddie forced his brain to quit overthinking — he was being cruel, right? Buck had been struggling with weight, who was Eddie to deliberately notice it in a way that felt…presumptuous. There was nothing Eddie could do but shake the thoughts out of his head and return to the stubborn bills awaiting him. Buck had been steady — fighting back the rewrites his brain and body seemed to permit. Sure, it had been challenging to keep track of the cravings, mood swings, and the physical changes Buck swore was happening—
“Oh shit,” Eddie verbally said, face dropping.
Buck was pregnant.
OR: After a few challenging days, Eddie realizes something about Buck, and unfortunately, doesn't have the heart to tell him.

Summary
“Buck. It's a set-up.”
“I mean... yeah? Pepa is literally setting me up on dates.”
“No. I mean, yes, but no.” Eddie takes a deep breath to reign in his nerves, hopes that maybe he can cling to the humor of the situation to get through the next minute or two without dying, and finally leans back, lifting his hand to scrub at his face. Fuck, he's still got his other hand in Buck's. Because he was teaching him how to dance. At Pepa’s behest. Christ alive, Eddie is an idiot. “I mean, she's trying to set us up.”
Or: Pepa starts matchmaking Buck, directly in front of Eddie's salad (no, literally). When Eddie told her he wanted Buck to feel like part of the family, this isn't really what he meant.

Summary
Eddie has decided it’s time to find out what joy looks like to him.
Swearing off dating, he pours his energy into adoption papers, therapy, and late-night study hours to get certified as a paramedic.
Buck is trying to move forward too. He’s dating beautiful Camila, who seems like an ideal fit. Something about her dark hair, sharp canines, and competence as a nurse feels easy.
But between grief, tequila, and a newborn who refuses to sleep, moving forward starts to look like something else.
“Lizzie, meet Evan Phillip Buckley. We call him Buck. And Buck, meet Elizabeth Joy Diaz. We call her Lizzie.”
At the sound of her dad’s voice, Lizzie blinks, wide-eyed. Her eyes are large and still a pale shade of gray.
“Elizabeth Joy?” Buck asks.
“Yeah. She’s gonna hate it, isn’t she?”
Buck stifles a laugh. “If she has any taste.”
“So you don’t like it?”
Buck rolls his eyes, but his smile is wide and genuine, lighting up his whole face.
“I love it, Eddie. It’s perfect.” He turns his gaze back to the baby. So small, so soft. She looks impossibly fragile, yet perfectly safe and content in Eddie’s arms. “She’s perfect.”
