Summary
Magic is unpredictable. And ancient magic more so. And sometimes Dumbledore might be too powerful for his own good.
Which is why it should have been no surprise to anyone — least of all Dumbledore — that his expansion of Lily Potter’s protective enchantment ended up being a little stranger and a little stronger than he’d intended… that it accidentally folded another one-year-old boy who lived at Number 4 Privet Drive, shared Lily Potter’s blood, and had a mother who loved him very much (even if often in the wrong ways) into its workings.
But it was.
Sometimes things slip sideways. This is the story of what happened when things slipped sideways in a big way and Dudley Dursley ended up with a power the Dark Lord knows not, too.
(It is also the story of a more enterprising Quirrell, who, after failing to break into Gringotts, thinks maybe — just maybe — he could please his master by swinging by Number 4 Privet Drive. Whatever his plan was, things don’t go according to it.)

Viktor asks Hermione to the Yule Ball but she’d really rather not go with him. So she makes up a little white lie and Fred swoops into rescue her once he realizes this. Later, she swoops in to save him when George makes the wrong assumption.

Pansy narrowed her eyes at Draco’s faux innocent look. “No way, Draco; don’t even think about it.”
“Why not? I can get Potter to come round and give it a hiss. He’s only on desk duty today.”

It was supposed to be easy. Uncomplicated. But somewhere along the way Pansy went and fell unconditionally, irrevocably and rather inconveniently in love with the one person she never meant to.
