Summary

Merlin walks in, rolls up his sleeves (metaphorically, then literally), and decides the only cure is a hands-on approach. What follows is 95% explicit, messy, magical smut and 5% Merlin having a minor emotional crisis while awkwardly cleaning up the king he just broke (and secretly loves). "How have you not changed the locks on your window yet? This has to be the seventh time now-” Viktor muttered to himself as he quickly picked the lock on the balcony windows. It was a low blow, but Jayce wouldn’t be in his lab because of his condition- it was an opportunity he couldn’t waste. That’s what he thought, at least, until a bullet dinged off his armour as soon as he had cracked the door open. Fucking Kirramen’s.
So now he was breaking into Jayce’s penthouse. His mask would filter out any pheromones that might muddle his thinking, and surely Jayce would be… otherwise occupied. ‘By himself.’ his mind preened with satisfaction. The doors swung open silently, oiled and tightened to perfection no doubt, and Viktor stepped inside.

Viktor did try to squish down his ugly wanting for Jayce, he truly did. At first, he had tried to brush aside his infatuation by telling himself it was for the greater good, as if he were some kind of celibate martyr.
Relationships and sex could get complicated, and he'd never forgive himself if his insistent needs were what collapsed all their hard work into the ground.
He wasn't a prepubescent teen anymore; he could accept what would never be given.
But with every shared glance, every moment spent absorbed in their work together, bit by bit, it made it harder to resist.
So, eventually, he had to say fuck it. It's not like the man knew what Viktor was thinking, right?
Why try to hold back his thoughts, then?
Or, Viktor has a tendency to daydream; Jayce has a tendency to overwork himself. Maybe together, they can find a solution.

Either the fin was giving Viktor much more trouble than he'd expected, or he was stalling. The worst of winter was already behind them, which meant a downstream slide to spawning season was lurking around the metaphorical corner, but Viktor hadn't even settled on a final design, much less a working prototype. He looked as if he was making progress today; he'd been hunched over his worktop for hours, only occasionally setting down his arc torch to swipe at his forehead and straighten his spine with a horrifying crack. Eventually, he'd hold his work up to the light, squint at Jayce, and shake his head, and the half-formed prosthetic would join its cousins on the scrap heap.
Jayce didn't mind. Every day he stayed here was another day of finding something else about Viktor he liked to look at.
