Summary
The capsule touches down on Erid about a decade and a half after I do.
There's a message inside translated into fourteen different languages. Y'know, just in case I've taught myself - and then the Eridians - Afrikaans.
Hey, it reads. Can we have our ball back, please?

Summary
I’ll figure something out. Something else. I have the best lab in the world (or, well, the best lab ever made on Earth), I have all the reference materials a guy could want, I am smart and I have a very smart friend who is very dedicated to keeping me alive. I’ll be alright. I’ll find a way. I’ll—
“If you awake,” Rocky says suddenly, startling me again. “You say ‘if you awake’. There is another option, question?”
…Have I mentioned that he is very smart?
Sometimes it’s not a good thing!
Or: going into a coma on the way to Erid might be Grace's best shot at survival. No one on the ship likes the idea.

Summary
I lived with this hunger long before the Hail Mary. This is nothing new. I’m fine.
Right up until Rocky asks another question.
“When last time you touch other human person skin, question?”
Oh. Oh no. “When I… a few days after I first woke up here.”
Rocky starts to relax for a split second, but then tightens when something occurs to him.
“Grace crewmates dead when you wake up. You said this, statement. You not even know your own name, remember nothing, see dead bodies, confirm?”
I nod, because if I open my mouth I will gag.
“When last time Grace touch ALIVE human person, question.”
I swallow thickly. I don’t answer aloud because I know Rocky can hear the hitch in my breath. My stomach churns with fresh bile. He senses my vital signs tick over into stress patterns and goes very, very still again.
“Grace. When last time, question.”
I clench my jaw so hard my temples ache, and beg him with my eyes to just stop.
“Grace. Please say not when… when Evil Stratt humans put you to sleep.”
I can taste grass.

Summary
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a mission he doesn't remember volunteering for. Alone on a ship scaled far too large for a borrower, he has to try to figure out why he's so far from home, and what he's supposed to do. On top of that, he needs to figure out why this mission is so prepared to have a borrower on the crew--standing at only six inches tall, it's easy to think none of this was meant for him. And yet, everywhere he looks he finds evidence that whoever built this ship built it with both humans and borrowers in mind.
An impossible task looms over him. A scientific mystery has somehow sent him hurtling through space, impossibly far from any other human or borrower, and it's on him to surpass an extinction-level threat that doesn't care how big someone is. It will end the world all the same if he doesn't do something about it.
But, despite what he thinks, he's not alone.
