In order to put an end to this talk, Darcy went to the wages master and asked to see any bets placed on his own wedding. It was normally not done to look upon ones own pages, however, whenever a gentleman placed money on his own actions, it sent a clear message to the rest of the gentlemen. The page had many bets surrounding the date of Darcy’s future wedding and, more recently, there were many bets as to the lady who would ultimately be chosen. Lady Fiona was favoured nearly five to one and most were betting on a wedding day to fall between the end of parliament and Guy Fawkes Day. Darcy laid down a crown as a symbolic bet and entered his own name in the ledger. He simply wrote “never” as the bet.

Elizabeth looked down at the tome in her hand and blushed. "My mistake. I thought it was a different book." She blushed harder when she realised that "DICTIONARY" was written in large, block capitals on the cover, spine and back.

Right up until Georgiana checked that she was clicked in, then floored the car in reverse, and sprung out of the inn’s carpark in the first handbrake turn of the evening, where Elizabeth had been expecting a gentle three point turn. Instinctively, she reached for the ceiling handle and gripped the seat with her other hand.
