Summary
When Bilbo puts himself between Thorin and Azog's blade, his mithril shirt protecting them both, it isn't long before some dwarves whisper that 'Oakenshield' might not be the best epithet for their king anymore. But for Bilbo, barred from Thorin's sight since the battle, this new epithet only adds to the sting. Spending his days caring for the recovering princes, Bilbo wonders how much more of this he can take, not suspecting his place at the center of a silent divide in the company.

(Role Reversal AU) Dark Lord Harry and Boy-Who-Lived Tom Riddle
***
The Dark Lord Peverell awaits his war bride at the head of the altar.
In robes of pristine white edged with lace hand-sewn in ancient runic patterns, Tom Riddle advances slowly through the parted crowd towards Harry.
A veil of shimmery unicorn hair obscures Tom's high, proud cheekbones and the stunningly perfect features that Harry knows lies underneath. Ravenclaw’s diadem rests atop the veil, deep blue sapphires inlaid across silver filigree. Slytherin’s locket glistens at Tom’s décolletage, delicate emeralds in the shape of a serpent glistening against burnished gold.
Harry waits with Hufflepuff’s cup held in his hands, filled to the brim with a quicksilver-sheened aphrodisiac.
Like any other blood-soaked conqueror, Harry is expected to tear the veil and silk and lace to shreds, to deflower his prize before the eyes of thousands.
Even if he thinks it’s kind of a stupid tradition.

Summary
In Middle-earth, there is a common misconception that because Hobbits are small, their tolerance for vice must be equally diminutive. This is a fallacy that has led many a sturdy Man and stout Dwarf into a very deep, very regretful slumber. Hobbits live lives centered on the celebration of the senses. Their bodies are built like high-performance furnaces, fueled by seven meals a day and a metabolism that operates at a frequency most other races would find exhausting. To a Hobbit, a pint of ale is essentially liquid bread, and they consume it with the same casual frequency that a Dwarf might consume water from a mountain spring.

Summary
There's a certain point where you can no longer ask someone what their name is. Thorin isn't sure exactly when that point is, but he knows that it's probably some time before the person in question saves your life. On the far side of the Misty Mountains, Thorin realizes that he never quite caught the first part of Mr. Baggins' name, and he finds that it's astonishingly harder to learn than he would have thought. Fili, Kili, and Dwalin are no help whatsoever.
