Nikto was not a good man. He’d seen the vilest things that this bullshit called humanity had to offer, and he’d done worse, and he’d had worse done to him.
She seemed smart… that could be more of a challenge, more dangerous, but he would prefer smart to stupid.
Nikto hated stupid people. Nikto was not a good man.
Sputnik came up and bumped his nose against Nikto’s gloved hand. He gave the hyena his requested scratch behind the ears, then he stood and turned for the door. It had been long enough. Time to see if he was about to have to dispose of a body, or if the universe had finally seen fit to reward him for all his suffering.

“They’re coming. Fall in!” Called the driver. They hurried back to the car before the horde could touch the tailgate of the following truck. And then they were moving through the town. You watched the crowd of wandering zombies follow after, ambling until they’d lost interest. But your interest had peaked.
You managed to get down from the fire escape before sundown, glancing up and down the road before rounding the storefront and staring at the poster. “Remaining survivors in the city, there is a safe house posted at the joint military base 10 miles northeast from the city exit. There is: food, water, shelter, and community.” You mumbled to yourself, eyeing the road. “So that’s where the helicopters came from.”
You quickly ripped off your backpack, slipping out your notebook, and turning to the last page. You wrote “ 10 miles northeast, joint military base “ and shoved it haphazardly into your bag as a zombie has cocked its undead head in your direction. “10 miles. I can do 10 miles.”
