Summary
Yelena squares her shoulders and lifts her head up, ready for a fight. There’s a hundred arguments on the tip of her tongue, but when her eyes lock with Kate’s every single one of them falls away. What she sees on Kate’s blue eyes is so familiar that she had never seen it anywhere but in the mirror, and it feels like diving head first into ice cold water.
She takes a step back and raises her hands as a sign of peace much like Kate had done a few minutes earlier, choosing to deescalate the situation before Kate draws her bow and she finds out if third time really is the charm.
“You really should’ve just given the flash drive to us,” Yelena says with a tired sigh.
“You should’ve asked nicely.”
Or: Set after the events of Thunderbolts*, Kate and Yelena are searching for their purpose when they cross paths and find that maybe they're more similar than they once thought. And maybe they don't have to search alone.

Summary

Then she meets Yelena.
What starts as an unlikely friendship becomes something neither of them asked for. Yelena is dangerous, Kate is reckless, and the city has enough problems without the two of them adding to the list.
When Kate discovers that Yelena has been keeping secrets that have consequences for them both, the rules she’s built her life around start to look a lot less stable than she thought. Somewhere underneath the anger and the very long list of reasons this is a bad idea, something has already changed that neither of them knows how to undo.

Kate knew it was her future from the first moment she saw Clint Barton, the left winger the world had deemed “Hawkeye”, snipe an absolute howitzer from the blue line to win the cup for the New York City Avengers in the 2012 Tesseract Cup Series. Everything she's done was to reach the ultimate goal, Tesseract Cup Champion. But suddenly, nothing seems more important than the Russian woman she finds herself drawn to.
Yelena Belova was drafted into the PHL at 19 but didn't report until she was 22. Finally free from the Russian Super League, Yelena makes her way to Utah to make the Thunderbolts her own. First, she must escape her sister's hockey legacy, figure out how to dodge pointed family questions, and force herself to ignore the gnawing feeling in her stomach that pulls her closer to Kate Bishop by the minute.

“Did you remember to get the first batch out of the oven?”
With a hum, Kate spins them both in place once, her eyes glinting. “Let me see… I can’t smell anything burning, so I think I did. I also put on the second batch just before you got back, and I even remembered to set the timer and everything. I did the dishes, too.”
“I am impressed, Kate Bishop,” Yelena deadpans. “All that and you didn’t need to use the fire extinguisher even once.”
