“Mike, in order for you and our friends to be safe, I cannot be here.” El spit out.
Instinctively, he replied.
“No, El, that's bullshit.” He spoke.
“The military will always be looking for me. And I can never change past that.” She spoke with dullness in her eyes.
He realized what she was planning to do. He realized she was going to sacrifice herself for him and his friends, for everyone in Hawkins.
Mike looked like he just wanted to burst into flames. He needed to keep his composure in the van, but he couldn't even try to comprehend why she would do this. He tried his hardest to think what could contradict her statement.
Right there and then, he thought of the perfect plan.

One nightmare later and suddenly El Hopper’s life is ripped apart – a stream of infected zombies have taken over Hawkins and she finds herself on a race to save her loved ones. While she’s been separated by family and friends, she thankfully has her boyfriend Mike Wheeler with her as they take on this new reality. But that also involves acknowledging that there might be something more sinister, and more personal, at the root of this zombie apocalypse. Summary
When El Hopper, former principal dancer for the American Ballet Theatre and new holder of a bachelor’s degree in developmental psychology, gets a job at St. Ignatius Preparatory School in Chicago as the dance teacher and guidance counselor, she’s excited to marry her two passions: dancing and helping kids.
She doesn’t expect to develop a crush on Mike Wheeler, the cute Physics/Chemistry teacher.
Mike, for his part, is just trying not to embarrass himself in front of the pretty dance teacher and finds that that’s a much taller order than he could have ever anticipated.
But, when El and Mike are assigned to be the faculty supervisors for this year’s Winter Ball, they finds themselves getting closer in ways they never expected...
