Summary
Roy understands the careful balance of life and death as well as any reaper could. His bow and arrow never failed him, letting him guide souls to their afterlife as soon as his weapon claimed them. So why the hell couldn't that one guy seem to stay dead? And what was with that stupid cupid nickname?
Jason keeps dying. It would be fine if it wasn't for the fact that he also keeps waking up. He didn't understand the magic that claimed his soul and refused to grant him peace. He sure as hell didn't understand why that weird cupid with black-tipped arrows seemed to keep following him around.

Lian's hair was blue. Roy was always calling Jason “Jaybird.” The name Project Bluejay wasn’t a very good name. It wasn’t a very good code phrase at all, really, but it was the first thing Lian thought of. Shitty name or not, they were stuck with it now.

Summary
Jason had a family now. He had his kid, he had his boyfriend, he even agreed to call Dick his brother. That was it, though. He didn't need to waste whatever precious free time he had on dealing drama from the rest of the poor fools that Bruce drafted into his stupid mission.

"You're not doing this to me again."
Leslie blinked up at him innocently as she asked, "Doing what?"
"The whole 'boo-hoo, I can't let this kid go home with anyone but you' bit," He gave her the most unimpressed look he could muster, "It was bad enough the first time. Now? Not gonna fly."
And, okay, Shoes being shipped home with Jason didn't actually turn out to be a bad thing. All in all, it turned out pretty damn great. He got a child who he loved more than anything and a boyfriend who made him feel like he actually belonged as a part of a family. But that was a hyper specific situation that just so happened to yield positive results.
Lightning wouldn't strike twice. It wouldn't end as well the second time around, especially since Leslie's version of a redo seemed to be calling Jason for help with Timothy fucking Drake.

Shoes was helping herself to the parts of a motorcycle that was way too nice to be left unattended at night in this part of town. It was sure to be a decent pay out, until she heard the stupid robot voice call out from behind her, “You know, this is like some fucked-up, backwards deja vu for me.”
She tensed for a moment but didn’t bother turning to see the Red Hood there. At some point after the big bad crime boss started giving her tips on how to get away with stealing or offering her his fucking jacket in the cold, he started to lose his edge of intimidation. Instead she focused on removing the back tire of the bike and saying, “This is just some routine maintenance.”

Summary
Wally has spent a long time coming to terms with the fact that he and Dick would only ever be best friends. It's been hard to grow up and accept many friendships have grown more strained and tense, but he knew he'd always have Dick. It was the one friendship he never had any reason to doubt. It was enough, more than enough. It was fine.
Dick has been going through a lot. He's been trying to make sense of Jason's strange new family with Roy and Lian Harper, but his brother just kept pushing him away. He's been so isolated recently, but his best friend Wally has never been good at leaving him alone. His steady friendship with Wally was more than Dick had ever deserved.

Summary
Dick missed his brother. Sure, Jason had a lot going on with Roy and Lian, he had a lot of tension to try and navigate with Bruce, but Dick could be helping with all that! Instead, Jason firmly shut Dick out of his life. It was discouraging if not heartbreaking, and Dick has just about given up. He was about to curse his brother's name, about to scream into a phone that had no one picking up the other end of the line, before he realized he wasn't alone in his apartment anymore.
Oh. Maybe Jason wasn't fully blocking Dick out of his life after all.

Suddenly, Bruce's "take down" of Scarecrow, with Nightwing and Robin by his side, has turned more into a mission of monitoring Red Hood and Arsenal to ensure no one dies while the two of them attempt to rescue their... sidekick? The archer sent an exasperated look towards Dick and insisted, "Dude, seriously. I'm your best friend and I deserve to-""Whoa," Kid Flash cried out and faster than Dick could blink the speedster had dropped his bag of chips and was standing in front of Speedy, pointing an accusing finger at his chest.
"You're not Robin's best friend," KF declared. Then, after a whoosh sent wind through the room once more, Kid Flash was standing at Dick's side, an arm slung confidently over his shoulder as the speeder proudly declared, "I'm Robin's best friend. Isn't that right, Rob?"

Summary
“Oh, so this is my fault?”
“You wanted to be in charge,” Superboy said. Robin couldn’t see him from behind but he could certainly hear the shrug in his voice. Maybe that’s an exercise for him, trying to see how many times he can shrug “nonchalantly” in a day. Maybe he was hoping his shoulders would fill out more from the movement and he would be able to match up to Superman's one day.
The thought made Robin snicker to himself as he retorted with an eyeroll, “I’m not the ‘one-in-charge’ I’m the ‘one-who’s-supposed-to-be-here.’”
“Do you roll your eyes so much to make them stronger?” Superboy asked, “So you can find clues as easy as the big bat one day?”

In a world where Young Justice takes a bit longer to form the young heroes find themselves falling together while having a few more years' experience under their belt. They didn't set out to form a team and Robin certainly didn't anticipate how deeply he would grow to trust his friends. Superboy, although annoying, was quickly becoming one of the most important people in Tim's life. Robin was used to being prepared for anything (to an extent which could be called paranoid), but Superboy was beginning to make him reckless.

Summary
When Buck moved to LA he was following a true purpose: He was going to be a firefighter for the LAFD. He put in the work, the studying the training, all to have that dream ripped away from him a month before graduating the academy. Buck needed to adjust his path finding himself working as a 9-1-1 Emergency Dispatcher in attempt to answer the calling that brought him to LA.
Buck still manages to find family with the 118.

When Bobby asked what made him decide on firefighting Buck attempted to doge the question, "You're gonna laugh."
"Try me," Bobby shrugged.
"I saw a movie," Buck answered. Bobby snorted.
"I told you."
Bobby smiled, "You just seem the type. You see a cool stunt on TV?"
Buck resisted the urge to sneer a bit while he defended himself, "No. Well, I mean. Okay, yeah, the stunts were cool but I really liked the brotherhood, you know?"
Bobby lifted an eyebrow. Buck corrected, "Or, siblinghood, whatever. The team. Having people have my back, it was a nice thought."
Bobby hummed, "You're really caught up on this whole team stuff, huh?"
Buck flashed a teasing grin, "So just my luck I get a loner mentor."

“You and me, Diaz. If we’re both single at forty then we’re getting married.”
“Yeah?” Eddie blinked.
“Unless you got a problem with that,” Buck offered, a challenge was back behind his grin. Eddie loved this, he always loved this. The moments between him and Buck where they pushed each other, challenged each other, cornered the other while refusing to back down. It fueled Eddie with a giddy excitement, sparking his nerves despite the dulling effect the alcohol had on his body.
He smirked and held out his bottle, “You’re on, Buckley.”

When Eddie end up in the hospital, Buck travels to El Paso to be there for Chris. In the overwhelming Texas heat Buck and Chris learn to navigate the complexities of their relationship to each other. What does it mean to be a legal guardian? What does it mean to be family?

Chris is fourteen and heavily traumatized. When he's confronted with yet another drastic shift in his family, he acts like it. He's insecure, he's full of doubt, and he can't seem to wrap his head around why Buck showed up at all.

"I thought it was locked," Buck said.
Chris raised his eyebrow and held up the key in his hand, balanced his weight on one single crutch while he did so, "You don't have a key?"
"Uh," Buck cleared his throat, a little embarrassed, "N-no."

Summary
When Eddie moves to El Paso, he starts to pull away. He's taking space for himself. He's protecting himself. The memory of the 118, of the life and career and family he had to leave behind, is too much to handle thinking about while he gives everything in his soul to try and mend his relationship with Chris. He's pulling away, he can see that, he just doesn't expect to be called out on it. Certainly not when Buck doesn't even realize he's doing it.

"No," Eddie interrupts abruptly, "What did you call me, Evan?"
"Eddie, what-?"
"Oh, that's right," Eddie gives a dry laugh, "Abby didn't call you that, that was her ex-fiancé."
"Eddie, what the fu-"
"You called me Abby!" Eddie yells into his phone, finally stopping in his pacing.

Moving to LA and joining the LAFD, Eddie had planned to keep his head down. His only plan was to get through his shifts, take care of his son, and figure out this whole "single dad" gig for the sake of his little boy. He didn't plan to focus all that much on making new friends. He certainly didn't plan to keep date-crashing Carla's handsome teacher-friend with the birthmark just over his eye.

Eddie chuckles, setting the radio to a nineties station on low volume, "I did not know that, bud."
"It's true! Buck told me!" But with Chris's youthful lisp the name was still pronounced like "Duck."
"Oh, well if Buck said so it must be true," Eddie snorts.
"Hey," Buck gave Eddie a light smack on his shoulder, "I'll have you know I'm a trusted source for information."
Eddie can't help but smirk back, "And with you saying so, it must be true."

Summary
His dad wanted to make sure he was always loved, always taken care of. Chris knew with his entire being that if his dad couldn't be the one loving and taking care of him then there was no one who would do a better job of it than Buck.
But apparently, this 'Evan' guy was written in his dad's will as the person to take care of Chris.
But that's stupid, that's the stupidest thing Chris ever heard. Chris needed to know that if he couldn't be taken care of by his dad then he'd be taken care of by Buck.
There was only one way Chris could make sure Buck would be the one taking care of him. He needed Buck to adopt him, as his stepfather.
It was a great idea, really. Chris didn't know why he's never thought of it before.
It was a win-win-win scenario. Chris got to be taken care of by his dad and Buck, his dad and Buck each got to marry their best friend, and this Evan guy could never take Chris away from Buck if his dad got hurt.
So, obviously, his dad had to marry Buck. All they had to do was fall in love. Chris didn't think that would be too hard for them.

"Yeah, Dad, the curse was so taken out of context!" Chris agrees enthusiastically with Buck and finally Eddie's laughter started to subside.
"Oh, please tell me you did not get our kid to start believing in curses," Eddie spoke and Buck could hear both the incredulous stare and fond smile through the phone.
"Well, of course curses are real," Buck started to defend.
"Evan," Eddie chastised.
"Look, all I'm saying is-"
"Buck," Eddie chastised again and this time Buck felt a rosy blush blooming on his cheeks. The name caught him so off guard that he allowed enough silence for Eddie to speak again, "Chris, mijo?"
Chris spoke up between his giggles, "Yeah, Dad?"
"Please tell me you still know curses aren't real," Eddie almost seemed to be pleading.

When Buck becomes a probationary firefighter at the 118, he doesn't mean to keep his family a secret. It's just hard to talk about his husband and son when Eddie's deployed overseas. At least if he can't talk to the 118 about Eddie and Chris, he can still talk to Eddie and Chris about the 118.

Buck was happy. Things were looking up for him. Besides the hardships his friends are facing. And the... fog thing that's happening to his head sometimes. And besides the fact that Chris left. Not that... not that he really has the right to miss Chris the way that Eddie does. But Buck is happy and Eddie is just his best friend even if Chris is a little more than just his best friend's kid. But it's fine. Buck is happy.
Eddie is... not happy. Buck has been busy and Chris has been gone and the quiet of his house has given room for all these confusing thoughts to scream louder than ever before. Thoughts about love. Thoughts about family. Thoughts about Buck. It's been far too quiet.
