When II wandered into the studio the next morning for practice, IV zoned in on him immediately. Dishevelled hair, a lost look in his eyes, and clothes askew and definitely from the night before, reeking of piss and he looks like he hasn’t slept.
“II? II, are you okay?”
II just blinked at him. Yeah… he was fine?
“I’m okay,” II says, and he repeats it like he’s trying to convince himself. “I’m okay, I’m okay.”
IV can tell instantly he’s not, and so can III and Vessel, who are both near him. Vessel reaches out to touch him, the reaction is instantaneous. “N-no!” II flinches. “Don’t touch me!”

The last year of high school was meant to be the best year of their young lives. Zanka calls bullshit. The people who say that high school were the best years of your life? They definitely weren't bullied since grade school by Jabber Wonger. Nor were they perpetually confused by the mixed signals Jabber has been sending (and forcing down his throat) all year.
Most bullies don't corner their targets to kiss them, actually. And the targets don't usually let them. But, Zanka has a knack for falling right into Jabber's traps.

Vessel should have been in his room, as far as IV remembered, but he tended to move quietly and could have been somewhere else in the house. Still, IV didn’t like the weird silhouette he caught a glance of in the dimly lit room.
III pushed down on the handle and peeked inside for a few moments while IV was close behind, trying to get another look, mind running a mile a minute about what could have possibly gotten into their partner’s room from outside. A bird? Some kind of rodent?
“Four?”
“Do you see it?” IV was trying to get a glimpse but III was blocking his way.
III’s voice was full of disbelief as he opened the door further. “Is that a baby?”

III, instead of asking have you lost your mind?! Or, what’s wrong with you, why would you say that? No, instead he stares back at him. “Do… Do you want me to call you pretty?”
II doesn’t answer that. “You never took me on a date. You take the other two. Not me,”

Summary
IV has been what the media calls "big" his entire life. He's been made fun of, taunted, put down, you name it. He's tried for so long to shed his extra weight.
He's been with the band for a while now, has settled in well as both band-mate and roommate. Things are going great! He's happy for the others and their relationship. He's happy to be their supportive friend, knows he doesn't stand a chance. But maybe, if he can get himself in shape, they'd see something in him, too? Maybe if he takes things a little further, works out a little more and eats a little less, he'll have more success.
The others notice his changing habits and are more than a little concerned.
