At this hour, the front desk is empty. The lights are dimmed so that every corner of headquarters is doused in shadows. There are only a few wondering the halls at this hour, quiet, so as not to cause a commotion when most are sleeping. The alcohol still floods Tamsy’s senses. Outside, the rain comes down in thunderous sheets carried by the wind.
Just as Delmon is about to reach for his door, Tamsy grabs him by the hand. His sleeve is wet against Delmon’s bare wrist. The halls are empty and whisper-silent.
“May I join you tonight?”
Delmon and Tamsy as friends and lovers.

Zanka slipped in and out of focus, the smell of rot and poison thick in the cavernous air around him.
I lost.
The two words resonated in his head, in his core, in the stinging of his wounded leg and abdomen, over and over and over again.
I lost.
Above him, Jabber loomed over his shoulders, smiling with glee and dancing gracefully from foot to foot and messing around with Zanka’s beloved Assistaff while Zanka lay helpless on the ground, unable to so much as roll over.
…I lost.
