Summary
The shrine steps were slick with evening dew, each footfall heavier than the last. Aigis’ disguise, loose socks bunched at her ankles, ribbon crooked would fool no one up close, but the solitude was what she craved. Or was it punishment? The shrine gate loomed ahead, its shadow stretching long and accusing across the stones. She halted beneath it, sensors prickling at the shift from synthetic light to moonlight. Here, the cicadas’ drone drowned out the memory of Kotone’s gasps.
Aigis knelt abruptly, palms pressed flat against cold stone. Her optics flickered offline, not prayer, but a desperate system reboot. Static filled her vision, interspersed with fragmented data: Junpei’s magazine tucked under his mattress, two women tangled in glossy pages, their limbs arranged in geometries foreign to combat manuals. One had her mouth where no. Error. Aigis’ fingers curled, ceramic nails scraping grooves into centuries-old rock. Why did her targeting systems lock onto Kotone’s parted lips when she recalled those images.
The memory crystallized sharply, Junpei’s nervous laughter when she’d caught him, how he’d shoved the magazine beneath his pillow like contraband. "It’s just, y’know, research,"

Summary
Lunch is an uneventful affair, which leaves Ken plenty of time to ruminate. His attention is only grabbed when the door is opened with a bit more force than usual, revealing a blushing classmate who apparently hadn’t meant to. Ken offers them a quick smile as reassurance and intends to look away, but instead, his gaze is caught by the calendar by the clock.
The date is… Ken had read the date this morning during the morning greeting, but it hadn’t struck him. He’d been too consumed in thought to notice what feels obvious now in retrospect. It’s December 2nd. In previous years, Yuki hasn’t quite wasted the day away in bed, but he’s struggled visibly, gotten distant—Ken has always been cognisant of the date before, though, and strived to give him the space he’s needed. It really is hard to tell with Yuki, what he needs in a given situation.
It completely slipped Ken’s mind, though.

A certain day of the year always leaves Yuki a bit listless. Ken supports in the only way he knows how.

“I’m… surprised you didn’t ask Yukari-san and Yuki-san to come along,” is what he says instead.
“Why would I?” Junpei glances up. “You clearly don’t want anyone to know it’s your birthday.”
“But you’re here.”
“Cuz I know. I can’t un-know, can I?” He gives the ball a little kick. “I’m not letting you spend your birthday alone, Amada. Kick it back to me.”

Summary
Even with the February air firmly settled in his bones, Ken still finds he’s worked up a sweat from the manual labor, skin uncomfortably warm beneath several thick layers. But with the maintenance completed, it’s only a matter of lighting the incense and placing his humble offering: a small box of assorted truffles—Mom’s favorite—already on sale in preparation for Valentine’s Day.
The two of them clap their hands in near unison as they kneel and pray.

Ken and Makoto visit those they have lost.
