“I’m surprised you showed up to help out,” Wukong comments after a moment or two. “Thought you’d be halfway across China as soon as the Bone Demon got dealt with. Why’d you help?”
Macaque knows what he’s really asking. Why did you come into the scroll?

Summary
The next time he wakes up there’s light shining out from underneath the curtains. Macaque is still nestled against him, seemingly asleep, but Wukong can tell he’s already awake by his breathing. When Macaque realizes Wukong is no longer asleep, he raises his head from Wukong’s chest and briefly nuzzles his face in greeting. “Happy solstice,” he says sleepily. “Ready to be lazy today?”
It’s almost winter.

Summary
Wukong could handle the anger and the hatred and the resentment. It hurt, sometimes on a skin deep level and sometimes on a soul deep level, but he could take it. He knew most of it was justified. What he couldn’t handle was the thought of Macaque growing indifferent to him.
But the love potion would change things.
