Summary
"If life could give me one blessing, it would be to take you off my hands!"
A long, pregnant pause lingers between them, wherein a small eternity passes before him in a handful of seconds. There's a wrench in his chest, where his heart should be, shattering to pieces. He might choke on it, the blood he knows should be slicking his throat and suffocating him. All very poetic, he decides, and fitting, for the end. Geralt is still looking at him, snarling, tension rolling off him in waves, teetering there on the edge of the cliff, and he makes his decision.
"Have it your way, then, Geralt."
Yellow eyes, furious and, if he should let himself indulge, afraid, are the last thing he sees as he takes a step back towards the edge and then he's falling, falling, and there is nothing but blue sky and fog and the edges of the mountains rising to meet him.
(Or: Jaskier makes a different decision, that day on the mountain. It all just sort of goes to shit from there, really.)

Summary
Geralt tries not to interfere with human affairs, but when he sees an innocent young man about to be sold into sexual slavery for a year as punishment for a crime he didn't commit, he decides to buy him instead. Geralt intends to let the man go as soon as they are out of the town, but instead the two of them are magically bound together. If they get too far apart for too long, the man will die.
So it seems Geralt is to have a travelling companion, at least until the year is up or they can find a mage willing to undo the spell. If the situation weren't bad enough, the man simply won't stop talking and singing.
Geralt has no intention of taking advantage of a man in no position to refuse. He is not going to have sex with Jaskier while they're still bound together. He just wishes Jaskier would stop being so damn distracting.

Summary
Upon returning to his alma mater whilst his wolf wintered in Kaer Morhen, Jaskier could hardly wait to spend long cold nights laughing with his closest friends from school and bright, sunny days instructing the newest generation of talented young bardlings Oxenfurt housed.
Everything was going splendidly, right up until Jaskier’s one true enemy, Valdo Marx, decided he would also be wintering at Oxenfurt.
Nevertheless, Jaskier resolved himself to have an excellent season. He was sure nothing too catastrophic could go wrong in one short winter, no matter how unpleasant the company may be.
(*Narrator voice* : Everything went catastrophically wrong almost immediately -and the company was indescribably unpleasant-, but then again, what’s a little unadulterated hatred between friends?)
