Summary
This is American mythology written in the 21st century.
Steve and Bucky are the American contradiction made flesh. Steve is the ideal, the WWII propaganda poster that believed its own myth hard enough to become real, the immigrant Irish Catholic kid from Brooklyn who became the symbol of a country that was never quite what the symbol promised. Bucky is what that country actually did with its power for seventy years, outsourced and deniable and walking around now trying to figure out what accountability looks like from the inside.
Texas holds both of those things without resolving them.
The Chisos Mountains don’t know they’re in Texas. The Rio Grande doesn’t know it’s a border. The desert is just the desert, existing for millions of years, completely indifferent to the flags.
A road trip with art and friends. An unexplained supernatural encounter in the desert. A quest to file a marriage license in New York City.
Thin Places is about what we do with a life living inside a machine that acts on the world in our name.
