There is a shift behind Niall, and then there is the press of something new, right up against the curve of his backside, thick and insistent and so, so far from anything Niall could have expected.
Ruben is hard.
Ruben is still panting as if he’s just returned from a run, is still trembling slightly, and there, pressed flush against Niall, he is fully, unquestionably hard.
“Ruben,” Niall gasps again, and this time Ruben responds.
The arm around Niall’s chest tightens, and the one slipped into the gap between Niall’s neck and the pillow rises, an impossibly large seeming hand cupping over Niall’s mouth.
“Quiet, Bambi,” Ruben whispers in his ear. “Don’t want mammy to hear you, do you?”

Summary
He rushes to the trash can; this morning’s breakfast (which is not much) comes up entirely. Dennis can hear commotion around him, and Princess and Perlah are talking to each other over the desk. Dana curses loudly, rushing to the boy’s side. “Hey, kiddo, you doing alright?”
“Woahhh…what’s happening right now? Whitaker? You alright?” Dennis can hear Dr. Robby’s voice now, next to him, not vomiting anymore--just spitting bile now. God, he feels like this the first shift all over again---maybe this is how Javadi felt minus the throw-up.
“Whitaker, I need you to answer me.”
When Dennis finally lifts his head from the trash can, almost all the staff have somehow stopped their work, watching him. They either cough awkwardly or just look away as his eyes finally find Robby’s own. There is some concern in his eyes, but the rest is stern and slightly grumpy.
Or: Dennis finds out some unexpected news---emphasis on the 'expecting' part.

Summary
Robby is at the end of his tether, COVID has torn him apart and Adamson's loss is a blow he can't stomach. After one more punishing shift in a long line of them, Robby starts driving and doesn’t stop. Dennis is trying to get to medical school and in desperate need of a ride.
They meet on a lonely road in Nebraska and, together, find their way home.

Summary

The man squinted stubbornly. “Man, hell nah. Maybe it’s just for show. You know — ring to ward off the creeps."
Daniel gave him a look. “ You do know you’re literally the creep it’s meant to ward off.”
Another patient intervened, “Okay, okay. But weirdo with the scar has a point. Dr. Whitaker practically lives here. I always see him when I come back here. How’s a man like that got time for a spouse?"
Daniel tilted his head. Come to think of it, he always sees Dr. Whitaker working himself down to the bone.
And looking back at it, there was one person Whitaker seemed... different around. “Maybe,” Daniel said slowly, “he’s married to one of the doctors in here."
