Summary
An eerie wail pierced the night.
His entire body jolted and Ilya found himself suddenly wide awake, his heart thundering in his ears. His eyes darted in the direction of the sound, but it was no use - the world beyond the fire pit was lost to a dark abyss of shadowed forms and smoke.
The sound came a second time. Ilya recognized it and groaned in disbelief. Dropping his head back to the cushions, he swore. Relief and frustrated embarrassment flooded him.
“Stupid Canadian wolf bird,” he grumbled, petulant.
A chuckle caught his attention and Ilya was reminded that he wasn’t actually alone around the fire pit.
Lifting his head, Ilya sheepishly met the amused gaze of Shane’s father. If asked, Ilya would blame his flushed face on the warmth of the fire.
Russians do not blush.- Or -
While sitting around a fire, Ilya and David have a quiet conversation. Both of them learn something new.
