Summary
As the eldest prince of the Line of Durin, Fíli had spent his entire life being groomed for the throne. He was taught to be calculating, steady, and disciplined. Yet, when the Company was out on the road, nobody seemed to see the hours he spent studying maps with Balin or checking the supplies with Dwalin. They only saw him when Kíli dragged him into a ditch, or when Kíli accidentally shot a farmer’s prize pig, or when Kíli decided to see if he could juggle loaded crossbows. Because they were brothers, and because they were nearly inseparable, the Company lumped Fíli into the exact same "reckless idiot" category as his younger sibling.

"Balin," Thorin muttered, shaking his head. "Tell me truly... did we just witness the absolute theft of my heir? Because I am reasonably certain that if that Hobbit tells Fíli to move the crown to the Shire, my nephew will pack it in a crate before sunrise."

“Yeah, I did. I heard a fifty-eight-year-old man who still wants his daddy to come fix everything. Well, you can count me out,” and Luther turns towards the stairs to leave. His family breaks into another bout of arguments.
Five stares at his back, his mind stumbling over his brother’s words, uncomprehending. He’s held his heart out in his hands for them to see, and all they’ve done is step on it, dismissing him, like his efforts are for nothing.
He can’t help the laughter that spills out of his mouth.
It has been for nothing. Stop the apocalypse, save the world, keep his family alive—those are his goals, but what has he accomplished? Nothing! He’s stood in the wreckage of his hubris at thirteen, burying the only people in the world who mattered, and he’s about to do it again, in the same body as the first time no less.
Isn’t that ironic? Isn’t that hilarious?
Five laughs harder. He laughs so hard it hurts.
In which Five has a well-deserved breakdown, then gets a hug.

After he and his siblings managed to escape the Sparrow Academy, Five ran the calculations—six times in fact—but there was no getting around it.
Jumping up and down one timeline by himself with moderate success was one thing. Jumping sideways across timelines with five other people? That was something entirely different. He was going to need help.

His whole focus was his siblings. Saving the world meant saving his siblings. There was only Delores during his time in the Apocalypse.
