Summary
When his hands leave the glass, his eyes flick up to where Jayce is across the room. It’s instinctual, something deep in his gut that his brain permits of him even though he knows it’s not a good idea.
When their eyes meet and he catches the confused, downtrodden look on Jayce’s face at Viktor’s early self-dismissal, Viktor feels a growl rip from his throat. He tears his eyes back to the doorway— anger and shame heavy on his heart— and leaves.
After bearing witness to Jayce’s flirtatious, confident self during a fundraising gala, Viktor grows resentful and escapes to feel his anger elsewhere.
Jayce, who watches him leave, catches up to him.

Thanks, I’m well aware of how people see me and how they want me. The one fumbling entanglement in the basement of a house party was enough for me though, because she found it weird when I started crying and then got so mad that I wouldn’t scent her that she left.
And I only did it because she smelled so good, like a river, like fresh cut grass, and it made me so jealous I was dizzy with it. I wanted to be her, and I thought that was close enough to wanting her, and it wasn’t, and it took five minutes for my knot to go down after I locked myself in the bathroom to jerk off and I had a panic attack the whole time and then I threw up in the sink and vowed to be celibate for the rest of my life.
“She’s not my type either,” he settles on, maybe more melancholic than he means to be.
