Summary
When the first class kids hear about a famous fanfiction of themselves, entitled “X-Men: First Class,” Charles decides to give it a go – and finds that it’s heavy on the “cherik.”
Charles sees the humor. Erik’s not amused.

“I can’t believe we’re back to this,” Charles says, like he wants to throw his hands in the air. He’s pouting a little bit. “Years of progress, and we’ve returned to you brooding. Don’t tell me I have to break out the terrible flirting again.”
Erik glowers a little less. “Flirting,” he repeats, bland but also maybe just very, very, very slightly, faintly, vaguely hopeful.
“Oh, yes,” Charles says absently, until something seems to strike him. “Don’t tell me you don’t…” He raises his left hand and brandishes the ring. “We promised ourselves to each other last week.”

Excerpt from chapter 33:
Charles was stable. That was the best news the doctors could provide, and as Erik stood by his friend's bedside, his arms were folded tight to his chest. Charles lay on the mattress, a starched white bed sheet draping him from chest to feet. His eyes remained open. His arms rested outside the covers with tubes protruding from his skin like he was a component of a machine and nothing more.
That was, after all, what Erik had reduced him to already. At the base.
Gingerly, Erik extended his hand. He wrapped his fingers around Charles' left wrist, just above the dark ring of purple staining his skin. Words ached in Erik's throat, but he didn't bother with any. He had been such a fool. He had allowed the other mutants to manipulate his better judgment, to make an enemy of their own kind like dogs eating each other.
Never again.

Summary
The Two-Body Problem refers to the no-win scenario among couples, particularly in academia, in which both partners are pursuing careers. Because of the necessity of distance between academic institutions, the outcomes are that the relationship will falter, or that one or the other will give up pursuing their career in order to maintain the relationship. The creators of the two-body problem, however, clearly weren't mutants. They neglected to think of the astral plane.
Or, Charles and Erik finally start "communicating" again during the early days of the X-Men, and they're either excellent at it or terrible.
