“What the fuck?” Ilya yells, as he jerks back like he’s been burned, his hand ripping away from Shane’s ankle. His irises dart left to right crazily, locked in on Shane’s face as he searches for something. Shane stays silent. “What the fuck was that?”

No serious hockey fan or sports commentator worth their salt would have considered record-breaking Boston superstar Ilya Rozanov to be Shane Hollander’s rival exactly, but sleeping with a man who had a specific offense-related vendetta against him and a wrist shot like a jet engine to back it up was probably ill-advised just the same.

The owner and GM vanished after embezzling $600 million into a crypto scheme, forcing the franchise into federal bankruptcy and immediate dissolution. Contracts were voided overnight. Shane hadn’t spoken to Ilya since the tuna melt incident. Now, with no team, Shane could end up anywhere, on opposite sides of the country, or in the same locker room as Ilya.
