Summary
V is restarting her life in attic room above El Coyote Cojo, after running away from Santo Domingo and her 6th Street cousins. She's trying to go straight, earning good scrap bartending with Pepe for Mama Welles.
Jackie's solo, edge-runner career is at its beginning, and he's finding him self stretched thin on the solo aspect. He wants it all, the Afterlife admission, the eddies to put him and his girl Misty up, and a nice ride to go with it.
Misty is holding the spiritual burden of her little corner of Night City. She's always had excellent intuition and foresight, and right now she can't shake the feeling that something big is happening.
Vik, retired "Night City Legend", is trying to keep himself together, his patients together (literally), and balance the changes that seem to be walking directly into his clinic daily. No amount of sparring rounds or hits of stimulant "for medicinal purposes" can keep him from the shit that's chasing him.

The two guards tossed the body on the ground in the middle of the room. It took Tony a moment to realize that the body wasn’t just small, it was a child. A girl, perhaps five or six years old, unconscious and dressed in filthy rags that barely passed for a shirt and skirt, bruises visible on every inch of exposed skin. If it weren’t for the tiny whimper she gave upon hitting the ground, he would’ve thought she was dead.
“A gift?” Tony asked, projecting his confusion over his rage. “Why would I want a kid?”
