Sixty days.
Dream heard the number land and noted, with the distant observational part of his mind that kept functioning regardless of what the rest of him was doing, that sixty days was a specific and deliberate choice. Enough time to pretend deliberation had occurred. Not enough time for anything to be meaningfully changed by it.
"The Emperor's heir," Dream said, and his voice was precisely, carefully, absolutely level. "Which one?"
Schlatt said: "The Crown Prince. Technoblade."

There’s silence. Sam watches as a guard approaches Colby on the screen. Then, a shiny black object is pulled from its holster. Instead of the gun getting pointed at Colby’s temple, the guard raises his arm then whips it across Colby’s face. Then they grab his hair, pulling him forward, and they yank something out of his ear.

He and Colby work for Black Sea, one of those shadow operatives based in LA. They didn’t choose the agency, one stupid mistake from when they were 18—just getting to LA—sealed their fate. Something that always gets Sam gritting his teeth. But they’ve made something out of it.
This mission… was higher stakes. And what Sam loves to point out, higher risk. Higher reward.
