"And what if I didn't have a good reason," Nom asked with a lump in his throat, "but I did it anyway?"
"That wouldn't happen," Scott answered without missing a beat, as if the answer was as easy as breathing. "And, in the hypothetical that it did," he brought Nom's hands to his lips, planting a warm, soft kiss on his knuckles with care, as if Nom wasn't something to be feared, but rather treasured, worshiped, "I think we can sort it out together.
"I trust you, Nom."
Or: Scott convinces Nom to let him braid some dandelions into the crown resting on his head. Unbeknownst to both of them, this night will lead to a lot more than simple flowers on a crown.

Summary
Sausage looked Nom up and down, an almost disappointed look on his face as his eyes landed on the morning star. "Is that all you brought?" Sausage clicked his teeth. "How boring."
"Won't be so boring when I smash your head with it."
Or: Nom finds Sausage is posing more and more of a threat lately, both to the kingdoms and to his family. So of course, Nom decides to do what he does best — fight. And maybe, during it, he will find they are more alike than he thought.

Summary
There is something deeply visceral and fundamental about a sibling.
This goes for all sibling relationships, the good, the bad, and the deeply, uncomfortably complex—but, in Nom's opinion, especially when you are the eldest.
It felt like for the first four years of his life, he had been waiting for her to come along. Waiting for a small little blur of ginger and freckles to rock his world and fix it all in one go, perfect in every way she could be, even though she was annoying and stole his fries and was pathetically obsessed with becoming just like her big brother.
