Summary
It was a pure black pansy. The petals were crumpled from the trip in his pocket, but it was still hauntingly beautiful. Atsushi slumped against the door, rubbing his eyes with the heel of his palms and swallowing thickly. He knew what coughing up flowers meant. He knew exactly who the flower symbolized, the color being a tell-tale sign.

Every head snapped toward the hallway. Dennis felt it instantly. That familiar tightening low in his spine, attention sharpening before he could stop it. Robby’s voice carried differently for him now. Dennis had realized that months ago and very intentionally chose not to examine it too closely. He knew many attendings, but only one could cut through every other sound in the room and reroute Dennis’s entire nervous system.
Jesse leaned against the desk smirking. “Your owner is calling you.”
Or, the ED jokes about Dennis being Robby’s puppy. That makes him feel a lot of things.

Xie Lian bursts with a bout of knowing laughter at that, slapping his hands over his mouth when Hua Cheng sighs, dramatically forlorn, his shoulders dropping in dejection. “Gege’s not taking my story seriously.”
“I am! I swear it! Please, San Lang, do continue,” His Highness begs, reaching across the table to hold Hua Cheng’s hand, squeezing it in unnecessary apology as he gives him a bright and encouraging smile.
Satisfied, Hua Cheng settles back, taking Xie Lian’s hand with him, forcing his flustered husband to hastily and clumsily crawl over to his side of the table along with it.
