He stood frozen there for some time. Firmly rooted to his place with his lighter tightly clenched in his fist along with the letter. What had disturbed him most about this encounter was not what he had been witnessed doing. Burning a piece of paper could be a perfectly innocent activity.
It wasn’t in this case, but it could have been.
It was far more the look on his spectators face. Those eyebrows twisted with concern, that upper lip curled up in disgust and finally those venom green eyes staring and staring. Seeming to pierce through to Tom’s very soul and seeing the mildew ridden black thing that loomed in it’s place.
