    It was without known cause or intervention that Harry Potter awoke in the cupboard under the stairs of Number 4 Privet Drive the morning after finally defeating his lifelong foe. The last thing he remembered was succumbing to the exhaustion of the Battle of Hogwarts on a blanket in a corner of the castle somewhere after hours of mourning. And now here he was, seemingly in his relatives house with the early morning light that stretched from the front door down the hall to peek through the grate and under the slat of the door to his cupboard under the stairs.

    Izuku, at the ripe age of four, realized just how unequal the world truly was. He, a useless, quirkless boy, realized quickly that there would always be people better than him. People with explosion quirks and wing quirks who knew their worth. Who knew they were better than him and knew what to do when he got too confident.

    At the age of five, he learned that there wouldn’t always be hope. That sometimes, you don’t get that toy you want at the store. That sometimes, you don’t get a quirk.

    At the age of five and a half, he learned that even if you got the toy, maybe it wasn’t the toy you thought it was. Maybe it’s broken. Maybe it confuses you. Maybe it makes your eyes hurt and your head ache.

    Maybe it’s useless, just like you.
