Phainon’s arm flies to the back of his neck, scratching awkwardly. He smiles crookedly. “Look, a win is a win! It worked!”
Phainon is set on a mission to defeat the prince of strife. It goes a little unexpectedly.

Summary
Kaveh and Alhaitham get assigned to investigate and handle a series of cursed objects around Sumeru. Along the way, they learn that curses aren’t always what they appear to be. Something thought to be cursed may sometimes turn out to have simply been misunderstood all along.
And sometimes... misunderstandings can lead to something truly wondrous. Like getting a new houseplant.
Hello, Kaveh projected to the plant through the gentle wave of energy. Can you understand me?
The vines rustled faintly on the floor. Kaveh was about to stand and give up when a low, rumbling, earthen yet child-like voice responded - like a whisper carried on a long-forgotten breeze. Yes.
He kept the infusion flowing toward the plant just in case it got aggressive, speaking aloud this time. “We're here because we heard you've been attacking people. Is that true?”
The plant shifted a little in the pot. “Attack? No. Just want... want give hugs.”
“Hugs,” Alhaitham echoed, crossing his arms over his chest skeptically. As Kaveh opened his mouth, Alhaitham raised his eyebrows in alarm and shook his head warningly - but Kaveh had already made up his mind.

Summary
Kaveh and Alhaitham have settled into an oddly domestic routine in their household... a bit more domestic than most roommates. Just as Kaveh is starting to get things together - and Alhaitham is starting to think he can manage a life resigned to just being friends with the love of his life - Kaveh’s mother calls and drops a bomb on him that changes everything.

Alhaitham’s expression flickered. Eyes sharpening, he pushed off the wall and stepped into the kitchen. “You think I don’t care about anything?” His voice was level, dangerously calm. “All because I don’t give a fuck whether the rug is forest green or cedarwood green?”
“No, you-”
Alhaitham closed the remaining distance in a single stride, cutting him off. “You’re so caught up in your own expectations that you never fucking listen.” His voice dropped lower, deliberate, his gaze locking onto Kaveh’s like a snare. “Maybe what I care about just isn’t rug shades.”
Kaveh turned his head, trying to look away, but Alhaitham’s fingers caught his jaw before he could escape, firm and unyielding. Their eyes clashed - all at once, everything was too close, too intense.
Kaveh’s back hit the counter as Alhaitham’s free hand slammed onto the surface beside him, caging him in.
Or; a heated argument escalates into something undeniable - something neither of them can ignore.

On the anniversary of Alhaitham's grandmother's death, Kaveh stumbled across the remnants of her scattered memory from before she died. Alhaitham confided in Kaveh about her dementia quickly enough to get his afternoon nap.
