“And there are people who want to help you. But I can’t do that if you don’t let me in,” he continued, his words sounding more and more like a plea.

Suguru shrugs, putting his phone back into his pocket. "We'll eventually forget what the place looks like bare."
Satoru smirks a little, almost fondly, like Suguru's being sentimental, so Suguru supposes it's good he didn't add, maybe I'll eventually forget what you look like, nineteen and with your head caught flame in a sunbeam. So I’m just making sure.

Satoru sighs. He combs fingers through silky black strands, where he’s already pulled it free from all knots. He takes awhile to answer, and then, he says:
“Wanna know a secret? It’s kind of horrible.”
Suguru seems confused, a little out of it. He whispers back “Sure.”
Satoru looks at him meaningfully, and says,
“I don’t care.”

Or: It took some time, for Satoru to get over himself enough to see his best friend spiralling. Shoko cracks open the windows to Suguru's stuffy room and makes them lunch and thinks maybe late is better than never.

“I lied,” Gojo cuts in.
“Or... I didn’t lie. Just, kind of, insinuated that I have really good bj skills but I-” He rushes out, rambling at such a speed that he isn’t quite sure Geto can even understand. But he can’t stop, his mouth just keeps moving and words keep spilling out.
“Well. I don’t have any skills. Because I’ve never done that before.” Strong hands find his thighs, the fingers pressing into his skin ground him in a way. He focuses on the pressure they bring.
“I’ve never been with anyone before,” he blurts out. There’s an extended silence. Gojo moves his hand slightly to peek at Geto’s expression. The other man looks shocked.

Or virgin Gojo has on a shirt that says "life sucks, but I suck harder" at a party and Geto asks for proof. Gojo goes along with it.

And then I see his ghost, and he never goes away.” He offers her a wry smile, finally looking away from Quentin to meet her eyes. “I’m literally being haunted by the ghost of my past and there’s no escape. Sleep only makes it worse. Being drunk makes it more vivid. Being high makes me nauseous. I can’t fucking escape it or him or how much it fucking hurts.” He waves a hand. “Is that what you wanted to hear?”
He half expects the world to burst into flames around him. But no fire singes his skin. Kady just narrows her eyes, lets go of his knee and stands up. “Don’t go anywhere.”
He’s too tired to move. “Couldn’t if I wanted to,” he says.
Too tired to breathe, sometimes.

Quentin laughed out loud at that—his brazenness, the sheer absurdity of the statement. How impossible it was to take him seriously. “Is that your best line?”
“Depends.” The customer tilted his head, a gesture at once predatory and playful—as though he intended simultaneously to promise danger and to assure Quentin that this was really all one big game the two of them were playing together. “Did it work?”
(Or: In which Quentin did get into Yale, and magic is not, in fact, real, but being seduced by Eliot Waugh nonetheless retains some sparkle-restoring properties.)

Gojou exhales a quiet laugh, a breath of sound almost lost in the desert air. There is something nearly pleased in the curve of his mouth.
"Very good."
Suguru shifts, propping his chin in his palm, watching how the deepening dusk settles over Gojou’s skin, the way the light catches and pools and reflects in his white hair. "You keep making them too easy.”
"Do I?" Gojou does not look away. His gaze flickers downward, lips curling at the edges.
A breeze moves, ruffling the feathers of Gojou’s wings, stirring the loose folds of Suguru’s robes.
Gojou speaks again, quieter this time. “The easy ones are only ever warm-ups.”
OR
Suguru was supposed to slay the Sphinx. The Sphinx wasn’t supposed to want him to stay.

When Suguru goes to sleep, he starts seeing a man named Satoru in his dreams. Satoru is beautiful, and has incredible control over their shared dream, even teaching Suguru how to embrace the impossible nature of everything around him. Sleeping becomes the most exciting part of his boring, predictable life, and in between impossible adventures and endless flirting, he finds himself falling in love with Satoru.
Suguru is sure this man is not real, and just a quirk of his suddenly very interesting imagination.
Until he finds out the man of his dreams is a real person, and tries to find him while he’s awake.
