A storm brewed six feet under. The snap of lightning muffled his hearing — or was it the feathers that surrounded him and filled his lungs? His eyes burned with tears as he gagged on them, keratin points scraping his throat raw.
Unable to breathe, unable to see, unable to hear, his muscles screamed as he clawed blindly through dust and grit. His body felt as if it was turning to stone as it begged for air. Heat painfully kissed his skin as he broke through the sand, light blinding him. He was grateful for all of it, even as his body seized and he retched plumes and sand.
His fingers triumphantly ripped through dust after he drank in his first breath between violent gags. He couldn't help the way the corners of his mouth twitched upward.
Nicholas D. Wolfwood was going to survive.

Ed has finally defeated Father and prevented the completion of Promised Day. He is ready to trade his Alchemy for his brother back and Truth goes along with it just to blindside him and force a new trade upon the alchemist without a say or choice in the matter.
Now back in Amestris with Alphonse helping him recover because of the deal of three promised favors to be fulfilled at Truth's time of choosing hanging over his head, Ed stays on edge as he waits for the inevitable tasks ahead of him, thinking that it'll just be another mission he'll receive that resides within Amestris or just beyond.
Except when Truth pulls him away from the others to tell him the first favor he needs to fulfill, Ed did not expect to be thrown into a whole new universe way ahead of his time and separate from his world entirely to solve a groups problem that somehow relates to his world.
