Summary
From this vantage point, looking down at Buck, Eddie can see the disappointment still lingering at the edge's of Buck's expression. They've had similar conversations, notably following visits from the Buckley parents, where Buck doubts that the life he lives is full and rich because it doesn't adhere to someone else's idea of what success looks like. Normally, Eddie's able to talk him through it with a few thinly veiled insults at the kind of life Margaret and Phillip Buckley have led, compared to Buck's life of adventure and joy, but he's not sure that that particular tactic will work this time.
Instead, he lifts a hand to cup Buck's cheek, his thumb sweeping across the delicate skin under his eye. "I love Harry like a kid brother," Eddie tells him. "But he's wrong."

Summary
As he tucks the blanket around his legs (and Spike!), he can see through the sheer curtain all the way to the step up onto the little patio. It's a good place to watch the world outside, he understands now why Carla and dad often stand here and watch the people of the street go about their business.
Chris trains his gaze on the space just beyond the front door, and as he watches, he feels his body relax into the soft cushions of the chair and the warmth of the blanket. He can feel his lips tug and twist into a small smile as he watches and waits.
The light is on.

"You think he's okay?" Eddie asks softly, even as Chim joins them.
"I think he's gonna be just fine," Chim says with a tiny grin. "Worried that he's being replaced, that he could still be replaced…" there's laughter behind Chim's words as he shares a Look with Hen that does more to ease Eddie's worry than any long drawn out explanation could do.
"Oh, he's definitely okay," Hen chuckles as she moves the cake around on her plate.

Why did Eddie look at Buck some kinda way at the end of the episode? What was that look all about, huh, Eddie?

Summary
Hope settles somewhere in the vicinity of his ribcage when Buck looks back into the house, and Eddie notices the hesitation slowly start to replace the tension in his shoulders, and he thinks that… this is it. Buck's going to take him up on his offer, and they'll go back to the house on South Bedford and…
"Rain-check?" Buck asks with a tiny wiggle of his head. "I think I'm just gonna go crash. Sleep's been a bit messed up."
The hope sinks like a lead balloon, which is to say it plummets with great speed down through Eddie's gut that he's shocked it doesn't leave a crater in Buck's stoop all the way through to Earth's mantle.

"I'm not meant to be here," Buck whispers back before Eddie's pulling him down and pressing Buck's face into the space between Eddie's neck and shoulder.
"Yes," Eddie tells him gently as he cradles Buck's head. "You are exactly where you're meant to be, Buck."

Summary
“Shannon,” he whispers softly.
“I couldn’t do it,” she says frantically, pacing around his coffee table. “I couldn’t — Christopher was crying and I tried to comfort him but my hands would just go through him. I couldn’t fix it, Buck. I couldn’t do anything but watch.”
What is Buck even supposed to tell her? That it’s unfair? It is but he’s pretty sure that she’s very aware of that. That it sucks? Yes, it very much does suck but again, she knows, she’s going through it, living it. She doesn’t need Buck to tell her any of that.
Nothing he says can make this better but he can explain what’s going to happen, can try to prepare her for what awaits her.Or Evan Buckley has always been able to see ghosts. He's been helping them pass to the other side for years. Now he has to help Eddie's estranged wife, Shannon.

Summary
Ugh your dads suck, his friend Phoebe texts when he tells them where he’s gone for the summer. And – yeah. Yeah, they do. What are they even going to do while you’re there?
That’s a thing Chris usually doesn’t correct people about, the idea that he has Dads, Plural. It’s easier than talking about his dead mom, easier than answering people’s questions about why he only has Dad, Singular. People who have Mom, Singular don’t usually have to answer questions, but when it’s a dad, people get curious.
He doesn’t really get why, but he knows it’s easier to just let them assume things sometimes.
chris misses his dad. he misses his mom. he misses buck. he's still trying to figure out what it means that he misses them all in the same way.

Summary
Eddie has decided it’s time to find out what joy looks like to him.
Swearing off dating, he pours his energy into adoption papers, therapy, and late-night study hours to get certified as a paramedic.
Buck is trying to move forward too. He’s dating beautiful Camila, who seems like an ideal fit. Something about her dark hair, sharp canines, and competence as a nurse feels easy.
But between grief, tequila, and a newborn who refuses to sleep, moving forward starts to look like something else.
“Lizzie, meet Evan Phillip Buckley. We call him Buck. And Buck, meet Elizabeth Joy Diaz. We call her Lizzie.”
At the sound of her dad’s voice, Lizzie blinks, wide-eyed. Her eyes are large and still a pale shade of gray.
“Elizabeth Joy?” Buck asks.
“Yeah. She’s gonna hate it, isn’t she?”
Buck stifles a laugh. “If she has any taste.”
“So you don’t like it?”
Buck rolls his eyes, but his smile is wide and genuine, lighting up his whole face.
“I love it, Eddie. It’s perfect.” He turns his gaze back to the baby. So small, so soft. She looks impossibly fragile, yet perfectly safe and content in Eddie’s arms. “She’s perfect.”
