Some might call Rin Hattori someone who didn’t care for worldly affairs. After all, it was like a layer of space existed between him and other people, between him and the world. Wide, gaping, growing.

It was as if the world spinned in its own orbit with Rin standing in the same spot, unaffected.

Prodigy, some say. Genius, some claim.

Despite that, most would call him pitiful. Because if not pitiful, what would he be, when he was wasting his talent away?

Rin didn’t care for world around him. No matter how hard he tried to pay attention to them, he truly couldn’t care less. All that really mattered was his own life and the select few people involved in it.

Now, if only ‘worldly’ affairs encompassed ‘otherworldly’ affairs too, because it would’ve made his life a whole lot easier.

‘Who else would be stupid enough to volunteer for a quest like this?’

‘I’ve been waiting a long time for a quest, Seaweed Brain,’ she said. ‘Athena is no fan of Poseidon, but if you’re going to save the world, I’m the best person to keep you from messing up.’

He looked straight into the gray eyes and spoke in the firmest voice he could muster.

    “No.”

Or a story I had to write down because it kept haunting me. A story where Percy knew how to say “No” and flip the bird at all the nonsense at Camp Half-Blood.
