    Summary

Shane and Ilya haven’t spoken to each other since they broke up over a misunderstanding at the 2017 All-Stars game. Ilya was traded from Boston to LA and they both tried to move on. But, in December of 2019, when Ilya ends up on injury reserve, he decides to make an unannounced trip to Montreal. He could have never foreseen the global pandemic just around the corner of that decision, and as the world crumbles around them, they find themselves isolated at the cottage for the longest offseason of their lives.

Breakup/Getting Back Together, COVID, queer friends, coming out, relationship hurdles (realistic), neuro-divergence/autism, depression, moving, rescue cat! Shane the prepper. Dealing with the fallout of a momager being gently fired.

This is fucking long, but really good. A good balance between heavy and delightful. Feels very grounded and real, tbh more grounded than canon.

    Summary

Ilya Rozanov has been drafted by Boston, the number one pick overall, but his father doesn't want him moving to America and so takes steps to block his visa. He's going to have to go back to Russia and stay there forever and that, thinks Shane Hollander, is wrong.

It's so wrong that Shane can't stop himself from doing something about it. Even though that something is the most reckless, the only reckless thing he's ever done in his life. He marries Rozanov in secret, to keep him out of Russia and put him on a path to Canadian citizenship.

Shane's got a five-year plan to get him there and when you have a plan nothing can go wrong. Right? Right. When you have a solid plan and a marriage that's on paper only there's no risk of feelings getting involved. Not on Rozanov's part and certainly not on Shane's.

    Right???

Kind of great so far. Not the first I've read with approximately this premise, but this one's less angsty and more hopeful.

LR17, looks like they just got outed by an asshole reporter named Brad.

Reread when it finished, angst did come in, but almost all from outside sources, not from the main couple themselves (other than the assumption that they would divorce, but that gets sorted out) happy endings abound, very good. Also I love the idea of the QC Owls, what a great mascot.

I’m sorry for wanting more from you.
I’m sorry for being mad at your happiness. I want nothing more than for you to be happy, even if it isn’t with me.
And I’m sorry for saying this, but if I die without letting you know, I’m afraid I’ll spend the afterlife regretting it.

The bit of extra support goes a long way and helps Shane and Ilya be honest with each other a bit sooner.
    Bonus Marley/Rose is adorable.
LR41 - Shane a Ilya both moving to Ottawa, marly being a PR disaster.

shane gets outed by a sports news paper reporter. what will happen, how will people take it, how will he take it.

Metros are violently awful, Shane somehow manages the drive to Boston despite being severely injured, Ilya feels awful that he tried to end things months previously, but is all in on the relationship now. Metros try to spin his outing and subsequent behaviour as "needing professional help". Thankfully the Bears pick him up, both in terms of trades and medically help him.
Police investigation into perpetrators against Shane, unlocks much bigger issues than locker room culture; human trafficking and extortion wrapped in a hockey sweater.
Shane is healing slowly. An army is forming to fucking destroy the metros. Ilya is grieving/raging and doing his best to be supportive.

I don't love the authors writing, too much 1st person writing and inconsistencies that happen often enough to bother me. (For the first half of he story Shane's eyes are blue? Ilyas shift from blue to hazel, description of the beating is inconsistent but that one is partially explained) Also the fact that the crime happened in Canada with mixed citizens should really be a more complicated matter. But author totally glosses over it, which is fine I guess, I just like stories with chew and depth.
But the plot has me hooked, so kudos for that
