    Summary

“Is this what we do now? Mark our lives out with cassettes?”

Or: Steve Harrington gets into Real Music. After the events of the spring of 1986, Steve and Eddie stumble through the summer by soundtracking every second of it… Treading a fine line between indisputable classics and annoying-on-purpose cacophonies.

It’s a clash of musical titans. And every mixtape counts!

“Look, lady,” he drawls, “Steve does a perfectly mediocre job. That’s good enough for management. Which is me, by the way…”

“Well, until he’s gone, we won’t be able to come back.”

    “Fingers crossed!” says Keith.

    There’s a beat of silence.

    “Excuse me?!”

“Listen up, Nana. If I fire him, I’ll have to hire someone else. That’s just too much of a ballache to be bothered with! And as far as I know,” he adds, coldly, “you can’t catch AIDS from a VHS. Have a nice day.”

    Summary

“Wait, wait, wait. You, Erica Sinclair”—Steve brandished his spoon at her, flinging flecks of ice cream spit onto the counter, before flipping it back on himself—“want me to help Eddie Munson get some game?”

“You know, Lucas said it took you a while to get with the program, but this is embarrassing.”

“So, what kind of guys do you like?” Steve asked, and quickly added, “In, like, a friendship way.”

Erica thunked her forehead against the tape display. If this was what Steve Harrington was like just trying to make a friend, no wonder he struck out with every girl who he dished ice cream.

    Summary

Pull yourself together, Harrington. It’s your brain. It’s all in your head. You’re…hallucinating, or something. Lack of sleep.

Bullshit. He’s always full of bullshit.

I need to call Robin, He thinks next, before scoffing. Call her and tell her what? That he needs to be fucking committed? It’s two in the goddamn morning anyway.

Steve unlocks the bathroom door and cautiously peeks out. There’s nothing to see, of course, other than the sickly yellow light of the kitchen overhead. That, and the incriminating shine of his pink mug, sitting tauntingly on the countertop; a deceptively cheery and innocent object that now exists as the symbol of his slowly crumbling sanity.

    ***

Steve Harrington thinks he’s being haunted (by a ghost that really likes fucking with his coffee.)
