“I don’t know,” says Simon. “I don’t even know where we’re going, they won’t tell me.” He buries his face in his knees and arms again, and Grace hears something that sounds suspiciously like a sob. Maybe Simon’s eyeballs were sweating too.
“You have to promise you’ll come back,” Grace demands, his own lower lip trembling. "Pinky promise!" He jabs his pinky into Simon’s cheek and pokes him with it until Simon looks up.
Simon’s eyes are red-rimmed, but Grace’s glad that he’s managed to surprise just the tiniest smile from him. “I’m not pinky promising, that shit’s for babies,” he says, eyeing Grace’s extended pinky with mock disdain.
“Then how am I supposed to know you’ll keep your promise?” Grace shoots back.
“We gotta seal the deal with something else,” Simon says seriously.

It's the first winter after Pitch's defeat. Jack is happy, he's not alone anymore, and his memories are gradually returning. But when a treasure hunt gone wrong puts Jack and Jamie in danger, flinging them through time and space, they find themselves on an island neither of them have heard of before. Jack's first priority is to get Jamie home safe, but Berk's inhabitants - human and otherwise - are certainly not making it easy.
Knowing they will leave Berk and the Vikings behind as soon as they know how to, Jack is not going to risk the pain of growing close to any of these people (or dragons, for that matter). But Hiccup Horrendous Haddock, wearing his heart on his sleeve, doesn't seem to want to take the hint.

This is one of the fics I’ve read that has genuinely put me in a chokehold, gang. To think, I have spent so long looking at this fic, intimidated by its impressive length, just to fall head over heels with the prose and story? It’s not just a ship fic… it’s so integrated into my psyche now. I’ve got a playlist based on this fic, I’m rewatching Rise of the Guardians (not of teenage mutant ninja turtles; see Like Father Like Son for my recommended life-changing fic in that category) because of this fic, IVE GOT AN OPEN ELLIPSUS PAGE READY TO WRITE DOWN MY OWN HIJACK FIC because of this fic. Summary
The figure… It's Robert. It has to be.
Waterboy tries to step back, but he stumbles on the wet floor, thudding into the shipping container beside him. Robert goes still.
His head jerks up, eyes rolling wildly to make contact. Bloodshot. He's crouched on the floor of the warehouse like an animal, low and cornered. Blood is splattered over his face, and as he lifts his head, Waterboy can tell it's streaked down his chin like he must have sunk his teeth into something and held on. When he bares his teeth, they've been licked clean.
He shakily, slowly, like the movement’s might provoke an attack, fumbles for his radio. “Guys? Uh- found- I. I Robert found- no, that's not. I found- uhm.”
(Warning changed to Mature because of the violence. Just to be safe, honestly.)

With the additional glow occupying the space between them, Grian was finally able to catch features that were lost in the prior darkness. His curiosity outweighed all else, and he drank them in greedily. As soon as he saw who sat across from him, alarms blared in his mind.

He couldn’t face this, couldn’t be in this place without sinking into its familiarity, without closing his eyes and inhaling the scent of the shop, without covertly staring and staring at its owner. But he was up and slamming the car door shut without stopping, trying to calm the dull panic in his head.
