“Okay…ummm. Step into frame.”
“Like this?” Buck stepped into the frame as they locked into each other's hold.
He had to focus hard on keeping his breathing steady. He swallowed the lump in his throat before speaking. “Yep..mmmhmmm…good. Now, put your hand here.” He adjusted Buck’s hand on his shoulder. “…and you wanna keep your grip firm, but not stiff.”
“Firm, but not stiff. Got it—easy peasy lemon squeezy.” And then Buck immediately stepped on his toe.
“Ow—that was my foot.”
“Sorry Eds, maybe not so easy peasy lemon squeezy.”

Summary
Without waiting for a reaction or reply, the man bore down on the gas and peeled down the highway, leaving Buck stranded in the middle of nowhere somewhere along Interstate 10.
And as Buck watched the red brake lights of his Jeep disappear into the distance, clutching his prescription of blood thinners tightly to his chest... there was really only one thing left to do. Tilting his head back until he was staring at the stars, he took a deep breath and screamed into the night:
“Fuck!”
And much like every other one of his recent cries for help, it had gone unanswered.
---
Buck gets carjacked, held at gunpoint, and stranded in Arizona the day before his first shift post-lawsuit. And that's only the beginning of his troubles.

Summary
That’s the problem.
He thinks.
He thinks, I love you, every morning he wakes up and finds Buck making breakfast.
He thinks, I’m in love with you, every time Buck grins at him at the dinner table at the fire station, a quip on the tip of his tongue and a blush high on his cheeks.
He thinks, I don’t want my life without you in it, just like this, forever, when Buck’s sitting on their couch in the hours after Chris has gone to sleep, and exhaustion claws at Eddie’s skin, begging him to follow in his wake. But Buck’s looking at listings, Buck’s looking at listings and their time is limited, and Eddie—
Eddie thinks.
Eddie thinks and thinks and thinks every little thing that matters; every momentous thought that at once feels stifling and freeing in the same fleeting moment.
He thinks, endlessly.
And, hauntingly—
He thinks Buck straight into her arms.
--
Or, Buck's new relationship is moving too fast and Eddie's not sure how to stop it.
